Whilst I might agree that Leeds and Elland Road in particular is a poor choice, from a 'preaching to the converted' POV I was getting a bit bored with Newcastle and it was becoming a bit of a chore and 'old hat IMO.

Newcastle is not the metropolis that it likes to think it is and there's not great connectivity by train (to/from MCR in my case) depending when your game was scheduled. Before I get pulled up I understand that towns on my alternative list might not be as big or easier to get to than Newcastle, it was the year on year and accommodation pricing that was starting to grind my gears.

The Magic Weekend will be poorly attended there and this will be used as justification for its removal from the Super League schedule.

I believe Sky want MW and as they provide the money, will get what they want. Newcastle FC new owners didn't want it there

Why do people think it will be poorly attended? Leeds is the biggest rugby league city in the country, it's geographically the closest Magic Weekend ever to Hull, both of whose teams always take decent support (albeit usually to watch a derby which isn't the case now), and Leeds United are probably the best supported football club amongst rugby league fans east of the Pennines.

The Saturday at least should be very well attended with the biggest game of the weekend taking place on the same day as Leeds are playing and a likely sizeable following from Hull FC will be there too. There's a very good chance the clubs playing on that day could sell out Elland Road between them.

I do acknowledge playing in Leeds is pretty much the polar opposite of growing the game by the way! I don't think MW really does that anyway though.
