| Quote: davids "It used to be the case, albeit divided into two divisions by the Pennines.
I don't think it's possible given the difference in athleticism and training between, say, Warrington and Rochdale. What probably used to be a close fixture would be 80-0 and that would happen throughout the league.
I would prefer 14-16 teams in the top flight, just to break the boredom of playing Cas and Wakefield three times a season.'"
I agree but there's no need to pick on Castleford and Wakefield (I know that you weren't) but the biggest failing with the current set up IMO is the possibility of playing Saints and Wigan 4 or 5 times when you throw in Magic the Cup and Play off fixtures.
Not that I'm worried about playing top opposition but repetition does devalue the big game experience

Exactly. Used to look forward to the Easter weekend, when we'd play Wigan and Widnes, and it might be one of only two Wigan games all season.
And that whole Easter weekend used to throw up some mad results too as teams faced their once a year home derby: relegation-threatened Halifax/Hull KR/Fev shooting down a high-flying Bradford/Hull/Cas and so on.

| Quote: sally cinnamon "How did it work out for Bradford and Widnes?
Also we've had plenty of root and branch shake ups....
after Brian Johnson resigned, we went through an overhaul of the coaching staff and had a full churn of the playing staff in about 2 years when Alex Murphy was here
then we went through another big overhaul at the end of the DVDV time, and brought in a load of chaff, so Cullen had to do a big clear out and start again,
then we moved to the new stadium and got new investment so Cullen brought in a load of new signings,
then after 2012/2013 when a lot of our best players retired/left, TS did another big revamp of the squad.'"
Although: Bradford and Widnes have won the major titles, relegation wasn’t their magic bullet, maybe it would be ours though.
Correct, from Cullen to present lots of material things changed, but all set against the backdrop psychic of our continued top division anonymity,, and still no grand final win.
Would relegation provide the shake up to the club psychic to galvanise the clubs hunger to attain that grand final victory?
What’s more important to the club, grand final victory or to protect the achievement of never having been relegated.
There is something missing from our club DNA, what’s left to try

We’ve never tasted the real lows, so no motivation for the real highs.
Would relegation provide us the chance for the root and branch shake up that we’ve never had, is that the monkey?
Press the reset button
Disagree, totally. The championship is not an easy league to get out of at the best of times and there is a lot of uncertainty below superleague at the minute. Not to mention we would lose all of our best players, and most of our sponsors with TV, match day and sponsorship revenues dropping significantly.
It would be a disaster. We have lots of motivation to win we just don't have the figurehead to deliver it at the minute. We did with TS and things just happened to take chances away. The current regime isn't the answer IMO but relegation can't be taken as a positive and certainly can't be taken as a prelude to greater things, that's just crazy talk.

| I think Superblue may be onto something. It’s the club’s Psychic that is to blame. Why settle for shaking him/her up though. Sack them off and sign a new one preferably with a proven track record and not just comin* from an obscure satellite tv channel looking for a final big pay off.

You seem very comfortable with the underlying losing status quo there,
But how can you say it’s crazy talk, the relegation shock and awe low point experience for Warrington could be the catalyst to drive us on to greatness, couldn’t it

You do realise that we would have to lose a lot of matches to get relegated don't you? If we went down there is no guarantee that we would even get back to the position we are in now, never mind the lofty heights of winning superleague.
To put it in to context we are bitterly dissapointed in a season where we have finished third in the league and reached the semi finals of the cup. Do you honestly think that we would be closer to winning superleague if we were relegated than where we currently are? We are a coach away, that is all, the right coach will give us the best possible chance of getting over the line, the squad is almost there and so is the financial backing. If our squad reaches its potential we have as good (no better I hasten to add) a chance as saints, Wigan and Leeds or anyon else. The weight of expectation wouldn't matter if the coaching team instilled the belief and tactical application of the squad we have. I think we missed the boat with Holbrook and also Watson, both of those would have been a gamble but in hindsight they would have got the team firing IMO.

| Perhaps our problem lies in the length of the season , is it too long for us? We did ok in this season's after lock down games ,although most of our opponents were not at full strength , & we struggled against the top teams who managed to peak at the right part of the season. Last season we had a rapid decline starting pre Wembley . Perhaps 22 games is our limit, just coast along through them & not worry about having to peak to win the games that matter. The loop games are our downfall .

| No fan of their team would take them getting relegated under any circumstances, we’ve experienced lows supporting Warrington and I know the generation before me certainly have. We didn’t win a play off game until 2006, we’ve enjoyed relative success since our first challenge cup victory in many a year in 2009 and we should’ve had that elusive grand final win but in sport nothings guaranteed. and although the rugby’s dull at the minute we’re still up there at the right end of the table and I wouldn’t swap that for bleak days In the championship thanks.

| Three years on and we've been in the Championship for two years ... this forum might be different.
Quote "Remember those wonderful days in Super League. We finished third ... with a decent team and 3 top notch coaches. We seemed to have plenty of money then.
Those were the days eh! ...only appreciate the good times when they are gone."

| Yes, beware the ghost of christmas yet to come...
The discussions on this board would be about whether our fans or Widnes fans were responsible for starting more trouble, complaints about Super League clubs being selfish when they voted to cut SL to 8 teams and stop promotion/relegation in response to financial difficulties in the top flight, moans about unfair playing field when Toulouse/Toronto were given special treatment on the salary cap and overseas player rules, rubber duckie telling us we would 'win the lot' if we appointed John Kear as coach, regrets at discovering our "once in a generation" player and watching him leave for SL after tearing up the Championship as a 19 year old and then going on to have a Sculthorpe-esque career with Saints, suspicion over the new takeover consortium headed by Eddie Shah and Derek Hatton offering to buy out the Board and rebrand us as Mersey Wolfs.
