Quote rubber duckie="rubber duckie"Harris didn’t want to leave. He was forced out to save the club with the lamest excuse ever devised!
Had Harris and Sculthorpe been born around 3/4 years later. We’d have already won the GF and backed it up.'"
I think they'd have to have been born around 10 years later. If they'd come through in the DVDV era we were still a dysfunctional club with financial problems and they would have been targeted by bigger clubs like Toa and Fozzard were.
The good time to have had Harris and Scully coming through would have been the mid 2000s when Cullen was coach and Simon Moran had taken ownership of the club. They would have seen the new stadium, the club had more of an ambitious vision then and the money to back it up.
By the time TS took over, they'd have been in their mid 20s and approaching their prime. Probably Harris would have played at 6 and Briers 7, we wouldn't have signed Myler. Sculthorpe would have been 13 instead of Harrison.
The elephant in the room with Harris though was that he always fancied a go at RU and even moving to a bigger club in Leeds and winning the CC and being MoS didn't stop him wanting to try it. Unlike some of the others who went to RU who were just taking the opportunity of getting a big salary, Harris had always been talking about trying RU. Welsh RU was in a stronger place by the mid 2000s and no doubt they would have pushed very hard to get him. So we may well have not held onto Harris, and also there's a question about whether his game would have been as suited to SL in the 2000s/2010s as it was in the 1990s when he could exploit weak defences with his step and looping pass.
Anyway, even with just Scully we would have been an incredible team under TS.
