Regardless of a few performances that have let's face it been poorer than we have got used to, I still love the wire as much as I did yesterday, as much as I did after the past 2 grand finals, as much as I did after the 3 challenge cups and the lls, as much as I did after my first game in 1989. I guess my level of expectation is a bit lower this season but Leeds won from 5th when they were poor and dysfunctional all season. Until we are out I will never write a tony smith wire side off any trophy (except this years lls).

GOB is the one to make way for me. Myler is far from his best, but GOB was anonymous vs Wigan and hasn't kicked in from the Leeds game. He hasn't done enough to take his chance.

He has already hinted that Matty will start so that does seem to imply we will now see an extended run of games with Myler and Ratchford as the half back combination. If that does not work, It will be fascinating to see what he tries next - because I can not think of another realistic option. Yes, presumably Woody will come back, and yes I assume Laithwaite will continue, but for me this is all a side show compared to the problems at half back. We have morphed into Saints 2013.

We will improve as the season goes on if we dont get key injuries am 100% sure of that.

The key difference between this year and last year at this stage of the season is last year you looked at the playing roster and you knew people would improve, and that we had too much quality across the squad to continue to struggle. This year, I'm looking at players and wondering which have any improvement in them, who has yet to play who will make a substantial difference, and which aspects of our play, when mended, will reverse our fortunes.

And I'm struggling to see where a dramatic improvement is going to come from, and make no mistake, we need to improve dramatically.

Well Russell hasnt started a game yet, he improves the team and has a knock on effect with Ratchford going into the halves.

We have new combos that will take time but we have already shown we have enough for the "lesser sides" even playing poor, Thursday was a joke in attack but theres more to come and we always have been a warm weather team, I think you will see a more confident Wire attack in few months, its nearly12 months since the first of two Widnes defeats, blips happen we havent turned into a team outside the 8 in few months.
