widnes are to us now wt we were to saint and wigan a few years back. if widnes start challenging for titles or we stop i think itll go back to widnes being our main rival but atm its wigan without a doubt.

I can see what happens on this thread; people say Wigan and the pie eaters come in and get uppity saying we're not even their biggest rivals....blah blah blah. People say Widnes but others get uppity because Widnes have only been in SL a few years (there was hardly any "rivalry" in the past since the Vikings were that crap!)

In all honestly, I don't really care whoever might be our biggest rivals. Everyone plays in the same competition, vying for playoff places and a trip to the Grand Final. The way I see it, everyone in SL is our rival.

Have watched wire since 1962 and always considered Wigan as our main rivals. We always used to open the season with the Wardonia Cup "friendly" against Wigan. Don't know where the Widnes biggest rivals came from as I can't remember it ever being considered as any one but Wigan in the past.

Here's 2 pieces of trivia.

Warrington have beaten Wigan more times than any other team.

Until sometime around the early 1990s, Warrington had beaten Wigan at Central Park more times than they had beaten us.

I think that tells you who Warrington, over the years, regarded as the biggest rivals.

Why would Warrington not 'aspire' to be better than a club which has won the World Club Challenge like Widnes?

However...

If people outside the two clubs were asked who Warringtons 'main rivals' are and they would all say Widnes.

Losing to Whiffness at home last year was a kick in the nads but after a couple of days who cared? Where were they at the end of the year? All that matters is whoever happens to be the team to beat in any given season be it leeds, wigan or saints.

That said, I hope we kick the s**t out of the pies later.

Because we already are better and have been for about a decade now.
