| Quote Paul Youane="Paul Youane"Surely attracting sponsorship to the club is part and parcel of how the club is "marketed" to potential sponsors?
Certainly much more so than the facility to purchase a student ticket from the website (which the potential for fraud is an obvious reason why you can't).'"
The Emirates deal is fantastic but does it make someone who enjoyed the World Cup more likely to want to go and watch the Wire next year than if Brooksons were still on the front? Probably not.
If that was the case, why do they sell child and concession tickets online? Both just as, if not more vulnerable to 'fraud'.

I think you will find that a shirt with "Fly Emirates" on the front has greater appeal than one with "Benson For Beds" on the front. I remember the right furor on here about wanting shirts without the sponsors name on the front that year, don't recall any posts along thise lines this year. "Brooksons" are more neutral but ceratinly a company that has become invoilved with the club on different levels due to marketing targetted at the business sector.
Students have been identified as a high risk for on-line fraud, compared to juniors and OAPs, as they are already as a section of society stealing a living from tax-payers.

Cobblers. Marketing covers everything about how the club is represented, it's profile and how this is maximised in revenue and profit terms as a result.

I assume that was 'tongue in cheek', since you too will have been a junior at some point, and will doubtless go on to become a future burden on society also.
But to return to the thread, I think the point Moving Forward was making was that the website's marketing of products / merchandise was not great and could be significantly improved. That is indeed quite different from the Emirates sponsorship. That will presumably have depended on the clubs image, 'values', self presentation, reputation, success on field and TV etc, together with the target audience that Emirates are pitching for. But I strongly suspect that business contacts between perhaps the Chairman / Simon Moran and senior Emirates management will have been a prime factor in all this. And having a certain (ex) Emirates board member coming from the Warrington area may also be a factor.
The Emirates deal is a major coup for the club, and makes the RFL's attempts to find suitable sponsors for SL look amateurish. But that doesn't necessarily mean there are other commercial areas where the club can not do better.

| Think we are missing the point here, yes we have a great new sponsor but I remember a post in the warrington guardian about increasing attendances with a view to expansion, correct me if im wrong but numbers were down last year on previous due to a number of reasons. All sponsors like a big audience for their product, my point is should the club not be working in this area aswell???

Just as well you kept quiet about that until the deal was signed.

| Slightly different point, but l went to less games last year than usual but at£40 in petrol each time and lots of wire matches on sky l've picked and chosen my games. Warrington may be a growing town but it's hardly thriving so the attendances are holding up well imo.
Just hope things pick up more for all in the town.

| I genuinely think we're being a bit harsh here. Marketing is about raising your profile, attracting interest, opportunities, revenue and profit. With that in mind, Emirates wouldn't have given us the time of day if the marketing team hadn't convinced them of the clubs standing, and that by being associated with the club they would tangibly benefit. In that alone, they've secured the clubs financial position and in the current financial climate, they should be lauded.
Perhaps it's because I'm old enough to remember when the clubs idea of visionary marketing was a stall on the market, but we're scaling the mountain whilst most are in the foothills on this one.
There's always room to improve, and commerce never sleeps or stands still, but I think wholesale criticism is unfair.

| Perhaps we are being harsh, the club has strong finances and we are a top 4 club in SL. When you compare our situation to Bulls and Wakey, we don't have too much to complain about.
Mind you, we didn't win anything last year, we must be on the slide.

| I commented on this a couple of years ago and got blasted by a couple of regular posters.
Marketing really is sub-standard for a top club.
On the website, the fixture/results listing is pathetic. Injury updates are non-existent and the
general layout/composition is poor and dated.
Design of kit is another area that needs some attention. The kit design is at student project level,
and when compared to some others, particularly aussie and other overseas examples, falls well short.
It seems that the kit manufacturer rolls up at the HJ with a couple of samples and someone from the
club says, "OK that one will do". Job done.
I don't think SM can be blamed for this but someone at a senior level, whose responsibility it is, needs
to start earning their corn.

| I think the past 3 seasons we've had some of our best ever kits. Next year's is superb.
I just think that there should be billboards, flyers, a Wolfware shop in the golden square. The club should be hammering rugby down everyone's throat. Last year for the Wigan game they put a few posters up in the golden square the day before. It's laughable.
I appreciate the sponser we've pulled in and that does excel one part of the market ing department. But other areas are below average IMO.
