| I'm not much of a golf fan myself but you have to respect Europe beating USA in their own back yard in any sport. What was funny was this morning's Nicky Cambell show on Radio 5. He picked a theme of 'What was the greatest sporting comeback ever' inspired by yesterday's Ryder Cup result. As might have been expected sundry wendyball fans came on claiming that various extremely ordinary league matches (including QPR v Newcastle twenty years ago ) were much bigger events! Talk about delusional.

| Nigel Benn coming back from a 1st round knock down to win with a stoppage in the 10th against Gerald McClellan was an amazing come back.... i remember being 18 at the time and i was heavily into boxing... I watched on in awe that night as Benn just stood there and declared war in the ring.
Because of what actually happened to McClellan, Benn never really got the plaudits that display deserved.
I think that's the best sporting comeback i have ever seen.

| Surely the greatest comeback of all time was seen at New Craven Park the other week, as the tenacious Wigan Warriors fought back from the dead to clinch the much-coveted League Leaders' Shield?

I've no great issue on Waterhouse
I commented before on on his great workrate and fantastic tackling before, I just expected a little more "devastating Aussie Test second-rower running", that we'd hoped for
No need for a u-turn from me

| I can't take the Ryder Cup seriously - Having to cheer on a side called 'Europe'???....
I agree it can be dramatic, but all those Golf fans thinking they are football fans, with their inane chanting (from both sides) just makes me cringe.
And as for the players themselves??.....Pampered, middle class blokes, who give footballers a run for their money when it comes to being overpaid and overhyped.

I remember that fight well. Watched it in the Tut 'n' Shive with 6 mates(now Level, for all you youngsters). Benn was getting battered in the first round and it was my turn to get the swallies in. One mate said "what are you doing, he's not going to last the round. Let's go somewhere else". I told him there was plenty of time, and Benn would recover. He did, and the same mate scattered 2 tables to get to the big screen, and kiss it. It was just awful what happened within 30 seconds of that.
Great comeback

The only time I've ever seen a certain first round knock out reversed. People forget these days that McClellan, before his tragic industry, was a fearsome fighter and character in the Tyson mould....remember the revelations coming out about him dog fighting, and taping up a labrador's mouth so it couldn't defend itself so his pitbulls could kill it. McClellan had no mercy for anyone least alone Benn and he knocked him straight out of the ring and Benn didn't know where he was. For Benn to have the strength, courage and stamina to recover from that and end up winning a phenomenal fight was an incredible piece of sport.

Did you see the documentary on the fight, a couple of months ago, Sal.
McClellan came over as reasonably ok...for a boxer with "issues" (I seem to recall the dog stuff). But his family, phew. I think it was his sister. Not a nice piece of work

There was a lot of bitterness, which is no surprise seeing as many felt it shouldn't have got past that first round, because Benn was given a lot more than 10 seconds to make his recovery.
Also, there was obvious insinuation from McClellan's trainer (who was a bit of a cock, and probably the main reason for the subsequent tragedy that unfolded) that they felt Benn was on drugs, which helped his almost superhuman display.
It was a great fight, between two absolute warriors, it was just a shame it all ended like it did.

No, No, No Dita's.
You've undersold McClellan's trainer's cockness
He'd make Eric Hall (remember him, Monsthter Monthster) seem like a life long friend. HELMET

McClellan was widely regarded by many as the best pound for pound fighter on the planet (well he was in the US anyway). The american experts were calling in a 1 or 2 round knockout of Benn.... He was coming over to knock our man out and take the belts home. I remember being really angry and thinking 'dont they know who Benn is?'... Wasn't long before he punched Benn through the ropes and we were all looking at those predictions coming true.... Benn then got up off the floor and fought like a man who couldn't feel the punches coming from his opponent... The same shot that knocked him down, now had seemingly no effect.
if you watch the fight back, there is a moment in round 3 when he hits Benn with a massive right hand and Benn just smiles at him, then responds with a flurry of 5 or 6 shots. He knew at that moment he couldn't knock Benn out. You can visibly see his shoulders slump and his head drop.
