The Saints player had both feet in the in-goal area when he jumped for the ball. Therefore he is counted as having possession when he catches the ball, rather than when he comes back down. That was what the final "decision was" that Silverwood apparently game Hodgson.

Ah, so they say he caught it in goal and it's a 20m tap, I see. I'm not convinced he managed to get hold of it, but I'll have another look later.

I said to my misses before the game that whenever anyone plays Saints at Saints they have to play so well to make it impossible for the ref to rob them because if they can they will, tonight proved my point entirely!

Saints are slowly bringing players in who aren't as good as the player in that position before. But if they win next week then Hohaia will be the worlds greatest player ever to grace the earth. He's a very average player and only plays well in the less important games.

Only the most clueless numpty in the world would suggest that Hohaia is anything other than a misfit in a team in which he has no position to play in and I'll think you'll struggle to find anyone on the Saints' board who thinks otherwise so I struggle to see where the point is coming from. He was a panic-signing caused by a domestic league with no alternative talent available, and an NRL with no one any better and affordable on the market. And we're stuck with him for another 3 years...

I think you are being a bit harsh on Hohaia. I’ve seen flashes this season, in fact games this season, where he has been class. Enough to suggest that given time he could settle in and do a job for you. Don’t write him off some of our fans did that with Monaghan, the rest is history.

He must have had it in his hands for a few hundredths of a second, whilst I'm sure Joel also had his hands in there. I'm not sure what the rule is with regards to possession of the ball, but Meli had lost it before he'd landed and he never seemed to have much with regards to control. I've seen players catch then drop the ball in those situations and the ref has played on. Another one of those grey areas that we as fans will never get unless the Wigan fans lend us the rule book.

I think they said his feet touched the turf again whilst he was still in 'possession', making it a catch in the in-goal. It was a tough call but I think 'try' and 'no try' could have been justified, we just got unlucky. I'm still not convinced that McCarthy even made contact with the ball on the last disallowed try, but I only saw that one reply; great thinking by McCarthy, either way.

I can only echo most of what has been said here: solid performances all round, with a few stand outs. It pains me to say this, but I think Atkins was a little off his recent form tonight.

I think Hohia, Wilkin and especially Perry got away with much more than they should have. That said, our penis were deserved and a few dubious things by us were missed. Nothing game-changing from either side, thigh, I don't think.
