A swinging arm will knock you off your feet, at worst you get a few stars and birds tweeting above your head.

Leading with the forearm or elbow to the face is far far more dangerous. If you cop a serious one of them, your talking a few weeks if not months out.

They look at intent. It's easy to raise the arm if you have the ball and the contact wasn't severe and I don't think the intent was malicious either. It was just lazy play from an unfit prop, who ultimately won you the game.
