I don't understand why teams don't go for the 1 more often, you get the ball back 6 more to go, especially last 10 mins, just as a time wasting tactic too.

Don't necessarily get the ball back - 4 points up, go for the 1, 5 points up. Short kick off, lose the ball grab and the opposition has 6 tackles starting on your 40 mtr line.
