| Look on the bright side. Maybe a few folks will finally realise what an over-hyped, over-priced, ego-indulging, hypocritical bore-fest wendyball really is, and leave it alone forever.

absolutely spot on
I feel sorry for the world game.....especially after settling down to a state of origin game this week (even if it was one sided)
as talk sport hyped it up before it kicked off " the world cup - 32 of the greatest football teams on earth"
yep course they are ......after Argentina and the perenial fluke goal getters brazil I am struggling to see a decent team that would trouble Chelsea...
when its all over all they will remember are them trumpets...

Some of these sports people need to get over themselves complaining about booing. If a comedian tries to do a bit of stand-up and he's rubbish he will get heckled....if a politician goes to some public hustings and starts talking rubbish, they will get heckled. It just happens, it's not about being fickle, its people expressing their opinions.
These footballers are all multimillionaires who live celebrity lifestyles and some of the supporters are not that well off and are spending a considerable amount of their disposable income on watching their team especially those who've flown out to Cape Town and paid World Cup prices for tickets....I bet if these footballers put the same percentage of their income into some hedge fund which then started performing poorly they would be cursing blue murder about it if they saw their hedge fund manager taking home his hefty bonus regardless of performance.

| I don't buy this, "they've paid thousands to go" argument though. No one forced them to did they?
I've spent a lot of money following my football club abroad and witnessed defeat (actual defeat, not a draw that didn't put them out anyway which is what those Ingerland beauts saw last night) but I haven't booed my team off the park because of it.
I accept players don't deserve to be applauded off if they perform badly but actually booing the very players you're allegedly there to support is absurd.

I'll tell you one thing, i'd be booing them off if I payed all that money and had made lots of sacrifices to watch that pile of garbage.

| I'm a Manchester United fan (have to use full name as people whinge if I shortened it in any way). Rooney in many peoples eyes is undroppable, but I really do wonder what England would be like with him starting from the bench, if just the one last group game. Bit too late now as 3? other strikers are all based around helping Rooney.
End of day, all the focus is on Wayne Rooney and if England could manage to learn how to win games without him it may strengthen the team. And I dont mean learn how to play ON if he's injured as that's headless chicken mode.
Are England going to become the old Warrington? When Rooney plays well, England play well/ When Rooney is out of form...and unfit...

That's spot on. Spending a few grand going to South Africa doesn't give you more right to a better performance than if the tournament was in France and you only spend a few hundred getting there. The money is irrelevant, no one forced you to go. These trips should be seen as a holiday with a few football/rugby games thrown in as a sideline. Too many people believe the hype when it comes to some of the England players lads when in reality they aren't good enough. I can see the frustration of the fans but I think that England put the effort in on Friday night they just weren't good or clever enough to get the win and shouldn't be booed because of this.

| they deserved to get booed off. it was an absolute disgrace except james had nothing to do. cappello should get booed just for playing gerrard on the left when do managers learn he can tplay on the left atleast against usa we had players playing well not just a whole team playing awful and cant even beat algeria.
