Thought it had to touch another player (from either team) to be deemed a knock on?

when he knocked it forward over wakfield player is was deemed to have been touched by his hand then regathered,therefore knock on.missed it meself but brother in law called it straight away as we were all celebrating.

There was an article in the match programme last night about speedy wingers.

It mentioned both Riley and King up there with the fastest in the league, which I'd go with. Atkins would join them in the list aswell. I'd personally say Riley though.

Myler is very fast over about 10-15 metres. His acceleration is very high, although his top speed will probably fall just short of the 3 aforementioned players.

I'd have thought Bridge was quicker than King.

as blanche, the wakey winger patted the ball backwards, it bounced up off the floor and atkins hand glanced the ball and knocked it forward onto demetriou, it bounced off his chest and then atkins caught it with one hand. he didnt actually pat the ball over demetriou, as demetriou was travelling towards our try line, hence he actually ran past the ball sort of. however atkins actually propelled the ball forward firstly onto demetriou, hence a knock on, the touch judge gave the call i reckon.

Atkins was at the reserves game today and even he's perplexed at why it wasn't given. He doesn't believe it hit Demetriou. Although I personally wouldn't be surprised if everything went out of his head after he broke free and ran the length

I didnt see why it was disallowed but I was always under the impression you couldn't handball it past another player and regather, the same as throwing it over someone and catching it, isnt it technically a forward pass?

I believe if it doesn't touch an opposition player or the floor, and isn't deemed to be a purposeful throw forward, it is allowed.

Think of an interception try where a player sticks his arm forward, knocks it forward, it stays in the air and then he regathers it. There's been a few of them over the years, a good few from lee Briers in fact and they are perfectly legal.

Im not a hundred percent myself, just something I heard years ago.
In an interception though they dont tend to knock it past a player for an advantage, they tend to be past the attacking line, whereas atkins knocked it straight past demetriou

I'd say you're spot on. Happened in front of us and I said knock on right away. He didn't take it completely cleanly, then it hit Demetriou.

Fair play to the TJ if he saw it - he looked even more out of shape than Bentham. Although his 'egg in the nest' bald patch was a joy to behold.
