LOL it happens every year. No wonder other clubs take the mickey of us. Talking up our average players as superstars.
I am not commenting about how many play at once, I am talking about the quality of each individual currently compared against those who play for the elite 4 teams in ESL. In my view they are way off.
I've heard it for years and years - the next great hope from Basil Richards onwards. Uncannily Warrington have a knack of developing players that are too slow / not creative enough for centre and too lightweight for the 2nd row.
Think of the amount who have passed through our ranks like that.

Remember we need to compare the 2nd rowers with the likes of Liam Farrell, Joel Tompkins, Carl Ablett, LMS. Chalk and cheese.
The forum seems to be full of pre-season hopes and dreams of very average home grown players as if they are superstars. The hopes are soon dashed when, like last season, reality bites.'"
Probably true at the moment, I thought Laithwaite was progressing well very hard working and in time had all the makings of a prop, let's hope he gets over his injury, the same with prop Evans then again Injury.
King I can see him making it, Wilde was introduced very early at an age when the likes of Farrell and Tomkins were loaned out, they all need a little more time while Dwyer has to make it next season.
I can see what you mean a few injuries and we would be short on experience.

Why?
I quite like the fact we see a belting player like Chris Hill and sign him and then he plays for us.

3076_1671446335.jpg SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS
For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

Great signing IMHO.'"
Hughes is a runner, his decision making/execution with ball in hand is and always has been very poor. IF and it's big IF it can be sorted he would be a good back row forward.

He's a good back row forward now. He was just voted forward of the year at a club that finished in the top 4.

I like the fact the club will go and find the best players, and is more than willing to pay a transfer fee to get the players we want.
But, I'd rather see Chris Hill come through our academy than have to buy them in continuously. Its cheaper both in terms of transfer fees and their salary costs in the early years meaning your cap will be easier to manage.

I tend to agree but in the past, this year I have noticed plenty of improvement in his defence/work rate and some of his passing the improvement is on going, as you say he's firstly a runner so hopefully most of his decisions will be made for him.
You will no doubt know a lot more about him than us on here, but to muscle in on Farrell and Lockers would be a big ask for any young player, I'm happy with the signing and looking forward to watching his progress.

Your logic is probably sound. But we do not have a great track record in the identification, recruitment, development and retention of top class players.
Ill start the list of those who have in the last 20 years come through the Warrington production line system and gone on to gain England (not Minor nations) International caps whilst at Warrington.
Currie*
Jon Roper
Paul Wood - was he home grown?
(* Assuming he gets a game in the 2015 internationals).

What happened to your "humble opinion"?
From your four comparative players, sorry superstars, that you mentioned on earlier, only Farrell would add to our 17 IM HO and for what it's worth I couldn't give a monkey's about other teams laughing at us. Who are they anyway, Saints and Wigan it's their 'job'? We don't get much grief from Leeds, or Hudd's and the rest....well

Interesting,
just out of question(based on you saying that you gave your season ticket up) how many games have you actually watched over the last two years, on tv ?
Not a ing contest, just interested on what you're basing that above opinion on.

| I'm not in the optimistic camp by any means at present.
However, Wires71 you are not comparing like with like. Our Farrell, Tomkins, Ablett etc are Currie, Hughes, Westerman (I'm also not bothered if they are home grown or not; "Woolagong or Woolston" anyone?). Our Laithwaite (and I think you traduce him somewhat), B Evans et al are their 18-25 squad players.

Not sure. I've watched all the games on TV and a number of live games too including the CC semi. I also use the SL stats and RL press to gain an insight.
So are you saying that I have missed the games where they have been knockout?

LOL. I forgot. Here it is.
In my humble opinion I would rather have
Farrell than Currie.
Tomkins than Hughes.
No the point I was making is that every close season we get this overblown hype of our average players and then the tantrums when it all inevitable turns to in the season.
We had an amazing pack in 2011, with brilliant half backs and full back and still didn't win the pot. So we need to aspire to be better than that.

We have only just signed 2 of them...the squad players made the 17 this season due to one reason or another. They were not good enough.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are not writing them off for good? Even so G King, Brad Dwyer and Ben Evans are very good players already. Dwyer was immense in many games after he returned from London. Ben Evens reminds me of a young Danny Nutley.
