I think there is a little bit of selective viewing on your part (and a few others), if you can't spot Westwood's 'reaction' to his assault.

Immediately after the incident you can quite clearly see Westwood shouting in the fellow's ear.....If you seriously believe he is just enquiring to the guy's wellbeing, then you are as deluded as I first thought...



Admittedly, Westwood soon realises the damage he has done, but nothing can condone the initial assault and reaction....Any guilt he feels is mixed with the knowledge he has been well and truly 'caught on camera'.

You can't 'quite clearly' see it, that is the point. I have no doubts whatsoever that if he was sledging he would have given him the facial, but he held his hand back, and I read that as he realises something is wrong.

Westwood is rough and oversteps the mark at times, but it isn't clear on th TV pictures. Do they still release the disciplinary statements, as it will be interesting to know whether he did or not, and whether that is a factor in his ban.

The fact is he was set, well balanced and still did it. It was IMO on purpose. He wasnt wrong footed, stepped etc...




Although you are correct in saying that we dont know what was said you are being extreemly charitable in what you think he was doing. IMO he looked aggressive when he leant over at first.

No, I'm not saying we don't know what was said. I'm saying we don't know that he said anything, as the shot was of the top of Westwood's head. People are just assuming he was sledging him.

The reason I am questioning this is due to the fact he didn't give the facial when it originally looks like he is going to. That makes me suspect that he realises the player is unconscious.

I haven't seen anything which conclusively proves he said anything.

Also, when the pushing & shoving starts, he doesn't do much. When Westwoods pumped, he'll go after anyone. I think he knows from the point of impact it's a bad one. On top of that, the TV footage of the blokes head hitting the floor, I can only imagine the thud it will have made, I think Westwood knows it's a real bad tackle, bends over the top of him (all you can see on TV is his mop, no sound, nor can you see any face to 'lip read') and is about to draw attention to the injury, ie, players are applauded for their quick thinking in calling help etc. As he bends over, he's pushed & shoved by angry Catalans players, with justification.

You'll not hear me say In my opinion, the tackle is anything less than a four match ban, but I'll stick up for Ben in that I think people are jumping on the bandwaggon a tad with this growling, 'lack of remorse' thing. There's not one angle shows him giving him a verbal, so it's pure speculation. If it was somebody else, we'd get 'He's not that type of player'.

5-6 game ban, big fine and a apology to Carlaw. Total sh*thouse cheap shot, wouldn't bother me if he didn't play for us again, i don't mind people playing the game hard but what Westwood did was just thuggery.

These things happen, it is a fast, tough game.

He will get a ban, and he should get back in the team. We want players to try 100%, well in Westwood that is exactly what you get, but from time to time, things go wrong.

Yes well done let us pursue a witch-hunt against a player who has been our most consistent performer for years and has simply made a mistake.

There is much worse going on in games all the time.
