| Dunno why he is getting comparisons to offiah.
I would say more of a Jason Robinson.

The reason he gets compared to Offiah, is that there is a perception that Offiah's game was based purely on pace. Whilst Penny's game is, I think it's a bit harsh on Offiah TBH. There was more to him than that, the extra bit that Penny is yet to show.
You can't compare him to Robinson. Robinson was a natural rugby player, who was as likely to beat you with his brain as his pace. He wasn't slow by any stretch, but he could beat a player without getting out of second gear. He was as natural a player as you will ever see, the reason he was so successful after his switch.

Which is why I'm completely baffled by this rumour. I never saw Penny as a natural rugby player.
Yes he got me excited with ball in hand and open space to run into but for me there was always something basic lacking. Maybe his time away has given him the time to learn the game more and what's required at the top level and as i said in another thread, If Smith thinks he's good enough then who am I to argue.

| Offiah and Robinson were greats of the game. Anybody comparing Penny to them is having a laugh.
If you're looking for comparisons for Penny start with Richie Barnett jnr or Leroy Rivett.

| I don't think you can coach what the likes of Robinson had into someone who doesn't have it.

| I personally would love to see Penny back in a wire shirt. He was still learning his trade when he was shipped out and he gives us us a level of unpredictability that we don't have at the mo. Really frustrating watching the the wire with no real pace in the side.

Comfortably my favourite Try as a Warrington fan since I started watching the lads around the beginning of SL. Fantastic try just a shame about the brain fart that followed it. I was more upset leaving KR that day than the defeat in the Grand Final last year, only the defeat against Leeds in the playoffs topped that day.
Regards Kev coming back what do we have to lose? Riley has had an average year and probably needs some more competition/backup for his spot. KP would be inexpensive and likely put some bums on seats next year (Bring back them T Shirts from the club shop! )

Be fair to Riley.as I have said before, a winger is as food as his centre. Riley has been outside utility back in Grix and a much out of form Atkins. Atkins form dipped around the time he settled down, and injuries to compound it.
Riley is fit, ever presant, and if he has the ball can do the businesses. The lad nearly single handed got wire into a position v hull in the cc to win the game, when the rest of the team were pants.

Riley intercepted an awful, ill judged, telegraphed pass and was then easily caught from behind twenty meters from the line. Had Currie not scored from the subsequent play the ball I imagine that you would be less complimentary of his efforts.

| TS offloaded Penny (I think) and I can't see him coming back.
Penny has subsequently has a transient career and Kear also got rid.
True - he has fantastic pace but was awful defensively and under the high ball but I don't know why we would resign him.
It all came too quickly for Kev and he had a lot to learn.

| As alluded to above by several more realistic posters, comparing Penny to mssrs Robinson and Offiah is not only ridiculous
but disrespectful to two of the games greats.
Robinson was one of his generations greatest rugby players, who was equally at home not only on the wing, but at full back, centre or scrum half.
Offiah was unique. I don't think that I have ever seen a player more hungry for the ball in order to score a try. His reading of the game was exceptional, and this coupled with his speed meant he was as likely to finish off a move in the right hand corner as he was on his own left wing.
Comparing Penny to these two greats is simply pathetic.

| We need some pace in our side urgently. I doubt we have anyone who could go 60 yards without being caught.
