| Quote: rubber duckie "Dean, just isn’t good enough yet and doesn’t seem to posses enough of the self drive to push himself into selection.
Hayes is young and small in stature, but is hungry and dogged enough to want it.
We have a dilemma that unless Dean is his worse critic, we need a half back until Hayes is ready.
The jury is out, but I have more faith in Hayes overcoming the obstacles ahead than Dean, who is looking like a destined GOB.'"
That's a decent post....
Though I'd say Dean will end up more Dec Patton than Gareth O'brien, who has fashioned a half decent SL career out of his talents.

| When did Riley Dean suddenly become a bad player? Every time I've seen him in the first team he's looked pretty decent and was nothing short of outstanding in the win v Huddersfield. Obviously he put in one poor kick against Wigan(despite getting us back in the game with an excellent solo try)and that was enough for Powell to publicly throw him under the bus.

I don't think anyone is suggesting he's a bad player. Just that he's not produced much that makes you suddenly think you've seen the second coming of Briers, John Woods, or any top half back you can care to remember.
Probably comes down to what I hinted at last week and that's that us fans can be too keen sometimes to build up youngsters who, in reality, have produced very little to warrant all the expectation of them.
Also, and I think it's a classic modern day social media habit where a player has to be either a bad player or a top player, when, in reality again, the vast majority hover somewhere between mediocre/average and quite good - I suspect Dean is floating somewhere in that large pool of players.

| We need Williams at 6, and a 7 with a top kicking game.

You get young players coming through at Saints/Wigan/Leeds, and within a few games you can see something special there. There's a maturity in their play, an ability to take charge of the game and early on impose themselves on their SL peers.
When young players come through at Wire, before they have ever really performed in SL you get loads of hype and demands that we build the future around them. Then you get a rearguard of fans who cling to this narrative and just explain away the lack of performance. "He just needs more time.....Wigan or Saints would persevere with him.....the coach has messed him about.....the coach hates him" then inevitably they end up in the Championship with everyone saying they could have been a great but our rubbish coaching staff didn't develop them.

I'm not saying they shouldn't have a fair chance, but having a novice half back, at the time his job is supposedly on the line, just seems like career suicide for Powell.'"
They wouldn't be novices if Powell grew a pair and played one of em on a regular basis instead of chopping and changing

| As we are unfortunately aware, there are games when Gigot looks world class.
Even at Catalans those games were few and far between. Even more so now. A huge no from me.

Or shoehorning Ratchford and Matautia into the halves instead.

| Personally I wouldn't give Powell 6 games. For me he should have gone (sacked) after the Toulouse win.
But hey it's his team now & what a shambles he has put together. The Backs look all over the place (with square pegs trying to fill round holes) & most of the Forwards are on their way here, How will they react to the Powell regime?
I see another tough season ahead for the Team & the fans with an early change of Coach never the best idea but almost certain to happen based on the players we are likely to have available & Powells inability to get them fit enough or motivated enough to compete & hopefully win matches.
I will, however, be buying a season ticket & (once again) be hoping for the best. How far are we away from St Helens? 8 or 10 miles?
No, a million miles at least!!!

| Isn't it becoming a bit tedious how the 'Powell Out' brigade seemingly manage to gatecrash every thread with their negative views??....
