am amazed theres even a thread on it...he made one bad read all game and dropped a low kick,

he does two to three time the work Lineham does (im guessing for a third of his pay as well)

he scores another worldy finish against the best winger in the competition and some people still think its his fault if a try is scored on his wing.....

For the first try Ratchford is even pointing at the third man out (Sarginson) which leaves Penny with a two on one Higginson and Manfredi... I'm sorry but if fans on here think that is anyway Penny's fault you haven't got a clue.

even Carney said it was the inside players that got it wrong...

he's made some astonishing one on one tackles this season that have really shut down attacks.

its so sad that a player that Entertains and is a local lad has to read some of the simpleton crap on these forums. I dont understand it is it jealous fans that think they could have been a contender but were too fat stupid and scared to lace up boots and take the knocks he 's took...?

I'm at a loss with it....

the only negative tonight was the injuries...oh and Kurt Gidleys "knock on"

We were sat on Kevin's wing and we all commented on how often tonight he was left with a two on one overlap. He was in a no win situation, unless he came in to try to smother the centre there was no way he could have saved all of the tries.

Went tonight and Penny did a hell of a lot of work defensively. That aspect of his game has improved immeasurably. He's an exciting talent, if he gets some space no one will catch him. People should lay off him.

Lets remember we are top of the league and but for Sandows injury we would have put 50 on that lot! By the way, how good were Westerman, Currie and Hughes? An incredible effort from all 3.

here endeth the lesson.

Sadly, biscuit, none of the pupils will listen.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO SLAG A PLAYER OFF/MAKE A NEW THREAD, SIMPLY BECAUSE HE'S MADE A MISTAKE (haven't some forgot he's scored one and made one)

FFS, WE'VE WON.

Penny's kick restart that lead to the drop out was great as well!

Tough kick to defend from Tomkins. I admire his confidence of having a go but I would have put it in the stand. In his defence, he's probably thinking of conserving energy for the team and trying to get the ball back.

The 2 Manfredi tries are superb edge play from Wigan, winger can't mark a winger with a centre in space.

Had a decent go, took his try well. Nothing to panic about

I don't think he is good defensively but that isn't my major worry... its his lack of size. I was cringing slightly in the last 20 minutes when I knew we needed a good set of 6 and to get down wigans end and heis taking a hit up. He is just too lightweight in my opinion and gets absolutely dominated in the tackle. Regularly seems to get held up and dragged back 5 yards, completely putting us on the backfoot in the set of 6.

If you compare this to how good wingers get their teams set of 6 started e.g. Charnley, manfredi, Briscoes, Hall etc who have the strength to get on the front foot it is light and day and makes it so much easier for the forwards following.

He possibly has to be more brave in the tackle and not run so upright into contact, and look to hit the deck quickly by driving low. Not sure, he just seems to casually jog into the opposition defence anticipating getting held up.

The reason I started a topic was because I had read some comments slagging him off on another topic and felt it deserved responding to properly. I fail to see how you could've read anything negative in my post?

Get real man! Not interested in any response and am certainly not going to get into a debate on Penny, credit where it's due please! That's his first mistake in 4 or 5 games. Could have happened to anybody and he got up brushed himself down and made sure he didn't make another error.

I'll repeat just one more time that I wasn't slagging Kev off, as I never have. I hated how he was made a scapegoat by fans in his last spell and I was heartbroken when he left the club. I totally distance myself from the rubbish spouted by Ron a couple of posts back.

My point was that, 30m from your own line, you don't have to commit yourself even if you are outnumbered. The Wigan two were a debutant and Manfredi, so the ball was always going to go to Manfredi. If Penny marshals him, he doesn't score and tbe cover has a chance of getting to the centre (we had Currie and Atkins on that side, so plenty of pace).

What i saw last night was that Wigan were much better at creating overlaps than us which resulted in our outside defenders being isolated on quite a few occasions but luckily we managed to deal with most of the threats. Therein could be something we need to be able to cope with as a team rather than fans shouting for heads to roll.
Attack wise, if we had a more fluid attack like Wigan we would be scoring for fun.

I am a big supporter of KP but that was a horror show from him last night. He looked hesitant and unsure defensively.

You're doomed as a winger if your centre gets sucked in,do you gamble? Do you stand your ground? Split second decisions

Kev penny offers more in attack than defence and that's why the jury will always be out,it's a trade of,you can talk about him until the cows come home but we know what he is yet we still seem to recycle threads

Even Manfredi (best winger in the league apparently) is naive in defence but fearless when finishing

Overall Kev is a more rounded player and has and continues to improve and I for one would be made up for him if scores the winning try in GF or CC because of his journey in the game I think he deserves it more than most
