I think you are underestimating the value of needing to know that
When hull played cas, and Briscoe went full length after two cas players just fell off him, Eddie was raving saying Briscoe weaved his way through the castleford defence. He is a muppet.

| Thought he was going to start crying at the Atkins try. he was adamant ganson should have shouted held when the 2nd hull player joined the tackle. for me players were still moving, one warrington player in the tackle. Clarke ended up sounding like a hysterical girl. bless him (not)
PS, yes I was there and proud of the lads 1 to 26ish. the whole team and set up got us to this point, now for the next phase. bring it on. on a sad note wont be at the huds game, wife dragging me off to cyprus, but yeh yuo guessed it, I know a bar where he will put the game on. come on you wire

Yes he pretty much wrote us off.
Funnily enough it appears that Wigan are not handling the expectations well and were poor last night. I think Sintellins might just turn them over!

Agree, fear Saints and Huddersfield more than Wigan.

That can't be right.
According to the all knowledgable Wigan fans, Hull FC made Atkins look like Greg Inglis.

| I liked the way he demonstrates understanding of really complex concepts, like saying warrington need to score more points and not let Hull score any more to win, I didn't think of that!

| Demonstrating his "knowledge" of Rugby League rules tonight believing that we have deliberate knock-ons.
That's Union Clarke, bugger off to it if you want.

I should brush up on them then
I've never seen the rule applied though, probably because in our game the refs probably trust that players are trying to intercept to counter attack and not knocking on to prevent tries.

| the first time i was aware of this, i think was in the RL game when that came out, or it was the penalty for deliberate forward passing.

| Generally speaking for a knock-on to be "deliberate" the player will have to be playing at the ball with his hand facing down. Very easy to train players to always play palm up as sometimes it might just stick.
A deliberate forward pass is generally given when the receiving player is infront of the passer when the ball is passed.........hence the refs just give offside.

There are a few rules which we rarely/never see actually applied by the refs, the deliberate knock-on/forward pass being one of them.
Another which we frustratingly inconsistently see applied is a penalty for moving off the mark before playing the ball. Watch the game against Hull, you can quite clearly hear Ganson shouting to a number of both Hull and Wire players alike to play the ball on the mark, but at one point decides to penalise Atkins for it. I have no problem with the penalty given, he clearly moved off the mark, what I'm failing to understand though is what was so different about that one that warranted a penalty where as all other occurrences before and after only warranted a shouting at.

You can't be asking for continuity from our refs, Paul.
Bad show.
One thing you NEVER see penalised, is the voluntary tackle. It happens EVERY game, at least once (particularly when there has been a kick, collected successfully by the defending side).
You'd have thought the RFL would be keen on this, considering all the "hoo-har" over the last few seconds of 2002's GF, where the most infamous voluntary tackle ever, took place.
Back on thread, Clarke showed himself to be ' a knob of the highest order" again, re the Atkins try.
You can guarantee if this was Carmont doing the same thing as Atkins for Friday's opening try, the only thing Clarke would be talking about, would be Carmont being the best centre since Mal Meninga.
It's a pity really. Clarke is obviously an intelligent man. He has some good thoughts on our game, and how we can go forward (as a sport). He just lets himself down, with his obvious OBSESSION with one of his former teams, and his over-reliance of statistics.

Watched the game back Friday night/Saturday morning when I got home so my memory's a little vague but didn't he start bleating about if you allow two men to push one back it could go on for minutes and be just like yawnion? He did realise that it was one on two didn't he!
