looks like I must be in a minority of agreeing with the chancellor. About time someone stood up and said it as it is. fact is far too many people are employed doing public sector jobs than are needed.

I'd go further.
1/ Make it compulsory for people to pass a test before having children, ie, the the intelligence and self-funding means to do so. quite simply have a 5 year birth control implant.
2/ any woman with a tattoo, or a male who thinks wearing a tracksuit tucked into his socks, or wears a baseball cap (obviously lacks intelligence), shall be automatically steralised.
3/ Sack the long-term sick ( mainly white-collar workers who earn an annual salary.)
4/ Remove every teaching assistant out of schools and bring back discipline. ie birch, cane etc.
5/ Remove all these plastic bobbies, absolute waste of time.
6/ Anybody who cannot speak English shall be deported.
7/ Cut the number of MPs by 50%. You do not need 2 MPs in 1 town.
8/ Heavily tax the banks' profits, seeing as though I own a few of them now, Im quite happy about this.
9/ Remove every quango and health and safety authority, and get back to using common sense.
10/ Abolish JSA. Being paid for not working. Never heard anything so ridiculous in all my life!!

Maybe we should start by cutting the £10bn of foreign aid we dish out every year.

After I finished University I looked around hard and got a job after a week or so, I stayed there for nearly 4 years but then as a cost cutting measure I was made redundant.

I was being paid up until the end of June so while I was off looked around hard for a new job. I had one unsuccessful interview but then got interviewed twice for another company and got it and I have ended up earning £6,000 per year more. In those 2 times of looking for work I have never claimed for JSA.

Jobs are available if people look hard enough, but some people get stuck into the trap of benefits being too easy and then through being off work for too long make themselves unattractive for companies to take on as the company questions how ready for work the person is.

and while we're at it - get right on the case of those 2 faced buggers who do work for cash to avoid paying tax, while complaining about benefit cheats.

I agree in principal with alot of what you say, but unfortunatly the chancellor has decided to punish the hard working souls instead. Low income families will be hit hard aswell as single parent families earning over £44,000. This budget is built on decieving people that action is being taken against the wasters when in reality it's going to impact on everybody apart from the richest in society. Also i have major concerns about #4 in your list. Without TA's my son could'nt go to mainstream school.

Most of the problem with unemployment is demand-side. Yes there are long term issues with a lot of the public being poorly educated and having no skills or motivation, but that hasn't just come about in the last couple of years. From the mid 90s to 2008 unemployment steadily fell and compared to the other countries in the EU was quite low.

Now you don't just have the lazy who are stuck on benefits but you have people who have worked hard all their lives and have been made redundant at the wrong age, so now nobody is interested in picking them up, and you also have bright graduates who can't get jobs. If you are a manual worker and get laid off aged 50 then you can't just retrain to another sector, because even if you did, they won't take you seriously. Get made redundant anything over aged 50 and you're in real danger of never working again, not because you're lazy but because people see you as over the hill and won't take you on. You're reliant on your original sector picking up, but even when it does, they tend to pick up younger people rather than the older employee.

For graduates it is now becoming very hard to get a decent job even if you have a good degree. The ones who get a 2:2 or lower- forget it, you won't get past the filters from most firms. But even if you did well at uni, it's difficult if you've been to a mid-table or Russell Group university because the market for Investment Banking has dried up which means all of the Oxbridge, LSE, UCL, Imperial grads who used to go off and work in the City, can't get City jobs, so they are looking for everything else. The employers know they are out there and they want to hire them for kudos. I have got mates with 1sts and Masters from places like York, Leeds, Manchester and they are either stuck on the dole or working in service stations, car park attendants, call centre jobs, bar staff or shop assistants. People say widen your net beyond grad schemes, but its hard for people like that to get taken on in jobs that are 'first rung of the ladder' to work themselves up, because employers see impressive qualifications and assume that they are only going for that job because they can't get anything better, and will be wanting to move elsewhere if they can (which is true to an extent).

Annoyingly the class system and nepotism still kicks in because I also knew people from uni who spent 3 years on the lash, got a 2:2, then spent a year on the lash in South East Asia, then mysteriously landed grad scheme jobs in the company where their Dad worked!

Down in London there are people who do unpaid 'internships' for six months to a year, providing free labour for firms who get a good graduate for nothing, work them for a year under the impression that this will be 'experience' which will help them get a proper job, then release them at the end of the year and take on a new crop of unpaid 'interns'. This is an option for people with wealthy enough parents to let them live at home and support them (you can't claim benefits if you do this) but if you need to have money coming in to cover the rent then this isn't an option, so when you apply for jobs and they say "you need some experience like an internship" you can't do it.

The government cutting benefits isn't going to change this problem or make more jobs available....the big issue is a lot of firms overrecruited and overpaid people in the boom times, they got burned and are now very selective about who they take on and prefer to run streamlined structures with fewer people working longer (unpaid) hours out of fear that they are lucky to have a job.

Totally agree with this but also scrap EMA's for students. Bribe'ing teenagers into staying in education after school is completly crazy. If they want to progress into further education they should want to do so to better themselves, not because their being paid to do it.

Oh, sterilise drug addicts as well. Would save loads of myther.
