| Six games to go. 4 points clear of Toulouse with a better points difference. Probably 2 points ahead of them with 5 to play when we play them in a fortnight. Win that and I imagine we stay up. 4 points clear with 4 to go as I can’t see them winning 3 of their last 4 games.
It says so much about this season that I’m desperately hoping we can scrape one win from our last 6 games to keep our top level status.

| Assuming they beat us. What about Saints having won the Dinner Plate putting their kids out for the final meaningless game. Now that's potentially
2 wins for Toulouse for starters. Their remaining fixtures are not very friendly I agree but this is squeaky bum time. It is essential we beat Toulouse.

So did Wakefield
Toulouse actually beat them
Wigan got a good caning off them
What's your point? With the exception of the Magic game we've been abysmal from round 1.

| He is stating that Powell (and the board) foolishly saw the nearly beating of Saints as some kind of victory and validation of Powells incredible coaching pedigree.
Powell went on about it for weeks afterwards forgetting that we actually lost. Being pleased when losing is what gets you relegated. I’m livid he’s still in post this morning.

| The threads understandably very much another Powell Out one…. Did any one on here go? We’re there any chinks of light? Anything to cling to?

I went. There weren't many chinks of light. Dufty had a decent game but then got hurt.
Almost the entire second half was played in our 20, at the far end of the field from the away end, so it was hard to tell who was doing what and we rarely had the ball. Considering the weight of possession we were actually quite brave in defence but as I mentioned yesterday we seemed to have no idea how to get it back so we were just holding on by conceding penalties, 6 against and drop outs.
I definitely didn't walk away thinking anyone had put in less than 100% effort: we just had no clear direction or plan.

Sorry Morrissey, was trying to be funny but there's nothing funny about this situation. Someone told me to "keep the faith" yesterday and we've got to give him at least 6 games next season. No we don't he needs to go now but I sick of talking about him now as he won't get sacked unless we lose to Toulouse.
He blames the players, the culture, luck, refs, injuries, everything but himself, take some responsibility at least.
Someone mentioned the fans getting on the players backs, the last time I went was Salford and the fans we're right behind them until the usual capitulation in the last 20 minutes. Fans can vent their anger at the final whistle (if they are still in attendance) as is their right as they want to see their club improve and be something they are proud of. We are currently a laughing stock and the Powell backing supporters are part of the problem and pack in singing "it's always are year" - it's not funny and won't ever be our year under Powell.

Exactly! The players aren't bad players, they're just very poorly coached.

I mean, this guy is basically encouraging & supporting people to turn up and get on the player's backs. Then, when they inevitably get beat after putting up a display riddled with nerves and mistakes, this fella will rock up on questioning why the team performed in such a poor way.
I know many fans are worried and just a tad hacked off with the poor level of our performances, but it's about time some of us realised that continually slating the team can't be helping anyone - the team is obviously mentally fragile. Having their supposed fans on their backs from the off (as this pi!!ock is suggesting) can only end one way.
Sadly, I think many on here are now almost willing the side to lose now, purely so they can say 'I told you so' and gain some sort of kudos on here. Just look how this thread unfolded. Not a dicky bird when they were in front. Soon as they went behind, the mob were soon on here.
So basically, my message is - SUPPORT THE love!NG TEAM - they are supposed to be the team you support, not some excuse for trying to look a smart @rse on the internet. If you are going to stand on the terraces just to mouth off like this Wire2004 character, then I'd suggest you stay away and sit at home, because it's definitely more beneficial to everyone.'"

And look at the comments after the Catalan victory..we are 10th with a real threat of relegation so fans are gunna be critical more so cos we've flung money after money on players some have took the preverbial.. hopefully we can scrape a victory from somewhere and our status in top flight rugby will continue...final note calling someone a pillock behind a keyboard is very brave of you..maybe you'll take a break from the forum like you did a while ago cos hardly anyone agreed with your comments

This is the most painful season I’ve experienced in 40 years and it’s ALL down to the coach. Any booing at future games will more than likely be aimed at Powell and will be totally justified and that will be AFTER the fans have attempted to help this sorry bunch lift themselves.'"
(I'm not getting in to the Powell in/out debate)
Fans haven't been booing from the off, but they haven't backed the team either when I've been or watched on Sky. They only really sing when we're in front or holding on v saints.
Contrast this with the support Everton received in their relegation fight. Despite all the money spent, they were poor and the fans knew they weren't getting good value. But their fans still backed them 100% and imo, that probably kept them up.
If I weren't a Wire fan, I'd want us to be relegated. It seems to me, too many are spoilt upon previous success. I get that people are unhappy and have every right to be unhappy, but I'd rather teams with backing like Everton succeed over teams with backing like ours.

| The fans didn't keep Everton up, the board sacking Benitez did. A coach who didn't fit the club and didn't have the backing of the fans, sound familiar?

Exactly. Our fans like to portray themselves as some sort of loyal, barmy army, when, in reality, since the move away from Wilderspool & the increase of attendances, we have become the most entitled, deluded bunch of supporters in Super League, all on the back of us being the rich kids, who splash the cash about and so, in theory, becoming the Chelsea/Man City of RL.
I suppose the good thing about relegation will be that it will sort out the real fans from the bandwagon jumpers?....

Perhaps Everton stayed up because Frank Lampard's skills in man management, coaching and media engagement with supporters, are far superior than that of Daryl Powell?

Benitez had as good a record as Lampard, didn't he? .....
The fact was, Lampard's appointment changed nothing and it took the fans to actually get behind the team to change things....
