What I wouldn't give to swap Mata'utia for Mamo right now!'"
Seeing how matuatia has been one of our best players this season and mamo is currently back in australia, i dont think a swap is a good idea.

| I thought Mamo had generally been a turnstile for Cas this year? And not quite the attacking threat he was with us last season. Only going off what I've seen on the televised games.

| Kasiano has looked alright tonight, especially considering the extreme 34 degree heat normally saps the big fellas.

Feel like being slightly positive about the future so I'll post a team for the future (next 5 years) that I would have from now or next season. Restrictions would be having nobody older than 25, and being able to attract players who could realistically be signed. I'll give my explanation on some of these.
1. Josh Thewlis (20)
2. Conor Wrench (20)
3. Toby King (25)
4. Oliver Gildart (25 - Wests Tigers)
5. Matty Ashton (23)
6. Riley Dean (20)
7. Sean O'Sullivan (23 - Penrith Panthers)
8. Taniela Paseka (24 - Manly Sea Eagles)
9. Danny Walkers (22)
10. Thomas Mikaele (24)
11. Ellis Longstaff (19)
12. Matt Davis (25)
13. James Harrison (25)
Coach - Lee Briers (because it's nice to imagine it would work out)
I'd be very happy to have this team right now. I think Thewlis, Wrench and Longstaff are all ready to start for us. And I think Riley Dean could offer us something given consistent game time.
The Matt Davis call might be a strange one, and to be honest, part of it was because I couldn't think of anyone else we currently have that would be of any use there and Currie is too old. I think given Davis' shape and speed, he might be a useful 2nd Rower though. Pure genius or utter stupidity? I'm sure there will be a few mentions of the latter.
Oliver Gildart - Suffering with an injury currently, but Wests Tigers are doing 'okay' without him for now and have been able to cover his absence with a mid season signing. I've always rated him quite highly in Super League. But given he's only 25, I feel like he's been around for a decade. If the Tigers are happy with their current options and Gildart (like any other English player) doesn't quite fit the bill in Australia, he might be happy to make the move back. And I feel he's a player we could realistically get.
Sean O'Sullivan - Mentioned him on a post here recently. Currently at the Penrith Panthers. He's had to fill in for about 4 games this season in the absence of Nathan Cleary who is arguably the best player in the NRL. Top 5 at the absolute worst. O'Sullivan has come into those games and shown great creativity whilst running at the line. And he has a really solid and mature kicking game, as I will repeat what Andrew Johns said about him the other week, "his kicking game is up there with the best in the competition, so he'll keep them in the game". He's come through a world class system, but unfortunately won't get in the team ahead of the current halfbacks, both of which are State of Origin level players. So he might want to look elsewhere, and he's not yet been hyped up around the League.
Taniela Paseka - This man is an absolute unit! 6 foot 5.5 inches. 120kgs (18 stone 12 pounds). Plays for the Sea Eagles but doesn't get too much game time. He's just coming back from an injury right now. He usually starts on the bench but that's mainly down to the Sea Eagles having solid props already. If you want an example, just watch this https://youtu.be/XmvcE4m_xls?t=166. Watch the whole video actually, it was a very exciting game. Not trying to hype him up from 1 clip but I have seen him a fair bit and he certainly leaves a mark when he carries the ball.

Good attempt and a lot of effort and research in your post.
Don`t agree with some of your choices, but that`s what a Fan`s Forum is all about
Matt Davis will leave Wire at the end of this season, btw..

matt davis is too small and not good enough, and i say that as someone who likes him, hes definitely not good enough and would probably be pretty ineffective out wide.
I'd be right out against signing gildart, have we not learned anything about signing english players coming back from the NRL on stupid wages? i wasn't that convinced by him when he was playing for wigan, i dont want to give him twice as much money to be ineffective here.
Longstaff (imo) isn't big enough, i know there's rumours circulating now but i thought this previously, he's been overhyped by some here as he's got a bit of a nasty streak to him, and isn't jack hughes. I've not seen anything to suggest he's better than sam wilde or benjamin julien.
I dont know too much about the other nrl players you've named, but i'll throw something out here, at the moment, the club can't win. If they sign established names, and they dont come off, we've ed money up the walls, if we sign lesser known players its another shocker of a signing, you can see there's value to go for a solid nrl half (cust, croft, lino) and we've had people after the wakefield game saying, why didn't we sign lino rather than paying over the odds for williams and widdop, if we had been linked with him the reaction would be as i've said above.
its very frustrating all this

I'd say it's definately us, we're the only club linked with him for quite awhile now, and now it's confirmed he's coming to Super league Definately us, so i'd say that's our starting props sorted,, Vaughn and Dudson

I have a similar opinion, he does a good job as a squad player and I can't doubt his effort, but he's never going to be a first team player at a club that wants to challenge. I also think its a signing that a Wigan / Saints / Leeds would never have have made, as the position would have been taken up by the next 19 year old kid off the production line. I hope signings of the likes of Davis, Clark (for this season) and to a lesser extent Butler will now be things of the past, as - whisper it quietly - the Academy & Scholarship seems to be moving in the right direction; Thewlis, Wrench Longstaff & Dean coming in to first team consideration and 8 or 9 players in the Academy (more than any other club) involved in the Roses game at Salford in a couple of weeks. With Anderson and now Marshall heading that coaching up over the past few years, its clear its being targeted as a priority.

Jury still out for me, he is well behind Thewlis & Wrench in terms of development and readiness for first team and he IS small, but the difference between him, Wildie would be we know Wildie hasn't made it, Longstaff has a shot I think - but I'm not as convinced as some other on here that he will be first choice back row for the next ten years...

| Matt Davis to Leigh for next year, not a surprise after his Dads comments on Twitter about his contract. Good luck Matt, been solid, just too small to make any impact, a good example of always giving 100%

| Glad he's gotten a contract sorted. Always gives 100% on the field and you can't knock that, put his drive in a bigger guy and they would excel. Good cover player for us and i hope he does well at Leigh, and they should be in Super league next year anyway

| .Are we shaping up to look something like this next year given confirmed and strongly rumoured signings?
1 Thewlis/Ratchford
2 Wrench
3 Mata'utia
4 King
5 Ashton
6 Dufty/Dean
7 Williams
8 Vaughan
9 Walker
10 Dudson
11 Holmes
12 Currie
13 Maguire
14 Clark
15 Kasiano
16 Mikaele
17 Harrison
with the additional of Philbin, Bullock, Minikin, Longstaff plus a sprinkling of some excellent Academy lads stepping up.
Questions for me still about:
1) lack of punch in the second row although we may find they get a lot more space next season off a more dominant front row
2) leadership and captaincy
3) goal kicking if Ratchford not starting
but overall an improvement on this year with lots of pace in the backs in Wrench, Thewlis, Ashton and Dufty and a stronger front row.

Not a mile off, would love Tanginoa to replace Currie or Holmes though.
