| I hope DC fulfills his potential with us. We have signed 3 of the biggest young British talents in the last 5 years but will they all realise their potential. When Saints signed Newlove, sculthorpe it did not turn into instant success. I think Monaghan has been our most important signing in the last 15 years or more but I think DC could be better suited to the style of play we are moving towards. I hope so.

| Newlove was pretty instant success with Saints.
Wigan had dominated rugby league winning everything year after year for a decade and Saints had been in their shadow.
Saints sign Newlove in November 1995.
April 1996 Saints win the Challenge Cup breaking Wigan's 8 in a row.
September 1996 Saints win Super League.

| Clark would have been excellent as an impact hooker for us tonight as we needed to be more direct. However Monas is still looking the part as a lead hooker.
We will miss him.

| It was Saints I think who ended their run in 1997 when Daryl Clark was 3. Not being from Wigan the history of Rugby league 1988-1996 is not a compulsory subject at school
When they asked Clark about his early memories of rugby league he said "obviously one of the first things I remember being a Castleford fan is Wigan cheating us into relegation! I remember at the time though my dad saying don't worry son we'll be back and at least we've got our own ground! It tickled me somewhat when Wigan weren't allowed to play at their home ground for a major cup game for fear of flattening the daisies before a football game! Obviously no player with a lengthy future in the game would feel comfortable signing for a team of nomads like that
My first challenge cup final as a spectator was 1998 when my dad took me at the age of 5 to watch Sheffield vs Wigan. I remember Sheffield winning quite easily and thinking it was a bit unfair that such a big city as Sheffield should be competing against a small town club like Wigan. It nearly broke my heart when my dad told me that their ground was falling down and they were about to be evicted!! I remember hearing all the Wigan fans chunnering about their history etc and remember thinking to myself who gives a flying fat one about all that!!
The transistion of Warrington in my lifetime has been remarkable. They have their own purpose built stadium a wonderful coach, have attracted some of the biggest names in world rugby and have had massive success on the field! Indeed I've watched them 3 times at Wembley and they've won every time!!"
Good luck DC from all at the Wire!
