dubious penalty????????
Surely shome mistake.
Dubious would suggest that there was doubt. Clear penalty would be more accurate and still would not undermine this arguement about the league leaders. Sadly alot of Saints fans have argued this for years and received no back up from other fans, so I expect you will find some solace with the Wiganers this year, but that's about it.
In the end the history books will show Bradford as Champions in 2005 not Saints and same for the other years we finished top but did not win the playoffs.
2011 will show either Saints or Leeds as champions and there will be little record of this thread as a side note on the matter.
Lets not forget RL has had playoffs before SL, that decided the champions.

They were clearly not good enough to win it. The results speak for themselves.
Under the old system the top two teams had two chances to reach the GF and now they only one. So it is much hrader now than under the old system which Saints benefited from. I am not saying that they wouldn't have reached the same number of finals but just that the top two teams had a second life.

It's because he can't get on the Pies Site because they banned him. The reason for the ban really makes me laugh, but I'll let him tell you that. For all that he can be a troll he can (sometimes) speak a fair bit of sense.

Funny that, our cup run consisted of Wire, Saints then Leeds.

I posted a when someone posted a picture of a Tesco storefront on a 'Favourite memories of Central Park' thread. I've since spent 5 years trying to get the ban overturned, had my injustice referred to Parliament, Amnesty International, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama but to no avail.

| System sucks, and im not just saying that because im a Wire. It should be a top 5, winner straight to GF, and a 2 vs 2 system of a semi and knock out.
The system as it is now is daft, as you can finish 8th and still win the league come on RFL get a grip!

| Stop moaning, the system is fine how it is all Wire had to do to make the final was beat 4th then 5th at home! If you can't do that you don't deserve to be at the final.

| Look there's no point in winning the league, it counts for nothing and is barely recognised by the sport.
You're better off resting your players, rotating your squad for 6 months and get into the playoffs by winning 15 from your 27 games. No risk to your stars and everyones fit for the only 3 games that really matter because the previous 6 months are just a seeding excercise.
Same with the Championship. Fev & Fax are mental for trying to win their league. They're better off doing a Widnes puttiing their efforts and cash into their stadium and training kids up. Balls to the team, recruit a bunch of cheap no marks and get dicked every week. It doesn't matter because you'll sack them all off once you've got into SL.

Steve, virtually all of the grand final winners have either finished top or second in the league, i think only Bradford have won it from outside the top 2 and either Saints or Leeds will do the same this year.
During the Leeds and Saints glory eras they have both dominated the league and then one of them has gone onto win the grand final.
We also have a coach that knows what it takes to win a grand final so are you questioning his methods this year ?

| Media comments on the lack of either of the top two at the GF (especially when they dominated SL this year) have been along the lines that there WILL be a rethink of structure by the RFL. Past experience would make me think this will consist of "What do we think then lads? Well we get a lot of money from SKY, let them make the decision. OK then, status quo"

| I've always said whoever finished top should be champions, but in 99 & 2000 we didn't finish top and went onto win the GF, so I'm not complaining.
2005, was the year when Terry Newton went mad on the saints players before the play offs started
Everybody knows the rules of the competition before the season starts, it's just a race for pole position, we finished 05 top of the league, but with an injury hit team we lost both play off games and went out, you just have to get on with it I' afraid.
It's all about peaking at the business end of the season and knowing how to play "play off football", which Saints & Leeds know how to do, and don't forget Leeds where 80 minutes away from getting there last season, so we could of been having leeds v saints 5
Wire need to build on this season, but it will be hard with the ageing team, we've been through it, surely the time has come to introduce more younger players at wire?

Bitter, much.
Simple caveat; beat the 5th placed team (which shouldn't be difficult if you're that good) then all this disingenuous, smokescreening nonsense wouldn't be an issue.

Exactly, the way people are talking I'm surprised the likes of Cas and Hull KR haven't been dominating Super League Grand Finals.
Surely they are the ones who are better rested after having lost half their games all season while the likes of Leeds and Saints were getting tired from winning.
Maybe it was Cullen and Jimmy Lowes who had the right approach because they never took us into the playoffs tired from winning all season.
