No, the problem will be that the first 17 are simply not good enough to beat either Australia or New Zealand. The fact that the reserves won't be up to it either is incidental. And crabbing the coach is pointless, really - Wayne Bennett could be in charge of England and they still wouldn't win.

Someones already pointed out Grix, Atkins is a viable (if stupid) selection.
I tried to not be too overly critical, might hurt his feelings.

Atkins has been excellent.. his stats measure up with the best in the league. (we know how you wigan fans love stats).
he isnt a stupid selection at all.
i would rather have him than shenton, welham & yeaman... and the new amazing centre that is joel tomkins.

I wouldn't have Joel Tomkins anywhere near the England side. But I also wouldn't have Atkins unless he was on the wing.
Bridge + Yeaman (or Jack Reed but I don't know enough to speculate on him)

rlAtkins vs yeamanrl
Having played 3 games less, going off them stats I think Atkins is the better option

And ones played in a side 2nd in the table, with an unbelievable points difference.
The other plays for Hull.

And I wonder why we are 2nd with an unbelievable points difference? Is it perhaps we have loads of players who are playing great RL but still are under-rated? Such as Atkins, Myler, Westwood, Grix etc?

With our best 17 and if we perform and the Aussies or Kiwis have an off day, we win.
But without Tomkins, Roby, Brough or Graham we would struggle to beat either side even if they had an off day.

I really doubt Westwood is still underrated by anyone anymore, he's generally one of the first names on everyones England team sheet.
Myler is improving, been good this year. And Atkins is a good player at SL level, I just think there are big deficiencies in his game that are papered over in Wire's side, but will be heavily exposed internationally.

| People have showed a fair bit of club bias on here, not least of all my fellow wire fans. The squad isn't bad, there's more depth than I can remember. And I'd love to see England make a decent fist of this tournament.
But unfortunately, I feel that whoever plays will still be pulling a Green and Gold rubber johnny out of their hole at the end of the tournament.

| It's good that Australia/NZ are touring here, gives SJM a chance to meet with them/agents etc. I'm sure we'll be chatting with a couple for when we need to replace pivots.
