As for Tomkins' skill on the field, he's undoubtedly the most talented footballer who's eligible to play for England at the current time.

His "cheating" (trapping tacklers' arms/legs to try and milk the penalty) is pretty appalling, but let's be honest, the only reason we all really get angry about it is [ibecause it works[/i, no point in being angry at Tomkins, the anger ought to be directed at the RFL/Refs for allowing him to get away with it. The minute he gets spotted and penalised for doing it we can all laugh at him for being a knob and conceeding a penalty while in possession.

As for the comments about half-backs supposed to be cheeky, cocky and so on - what a load of horlicks, cheeky and cocky does not mean a cheat and an all round scumbag, you remind me of the kind of people who excuse their kids for being obnoxious little bullies and making other kids' lives a misery by saying "oh he's very energetic and boisterous, he'll grow out of it".

How can you compare a tearaway, uncontrolable kid to a professional RL player, sorry but thats just comical lol. Their is a huge difference between a problem kid thats a nuisance 24/7 to a professional rugby league half back thats just a general nuisance for 80 mins in a controlled enviroment.

I remember watching an RL interview that was either on the footy show in Aus or on boots n all where they were talking about scrum halves, the general opinion was that they must have a certain arrogance about them or a screw loose to want to step on a RL pitch with players that are almost twice their size, look at the size of A Langer, A Gregory, R Burrow and B Goulding as just a few examples.

A lot of the best sportsmen have arrogance bred into them, thats what seperates them from the best. Eric Cantona was full of it, so was Alex Higgins and Ronnie O`Sullivan, most boxers are arrogant, its called self belief.

If i was around 5ft tall or under i would need a lot of arrogance (self belief) to step onto a RL pitch, with you saying the above is a load of horlicks then i presume you think the likes of Lee Briers, Bobby Goulding, Andy Gregory, Sean Long etc etc are not cocky players ?

Rob, I will repeat and keep it simple and the words short so that you can understand since you obviously faiiled to read my first post properlyArrogance does not imply breaking the laws of the game. That is the assertion that I say is horlicks, not the cheeky/cocky nature in general.

Its just you referred to my reply as if i was saying that its ok to go around being a scumbag with anything goes if your a cocky, arrogant and cheeky scrum half. I didn`t say anywhere that the above excuses a half back to cheat and be an all round scumbag, i even said it was a cheap shot from Sam Tomkins and he needs to learn the difference between general niggling which is fine and cheap shots which aint.

That was in direct response to the crap Tomkins gets up to in almost every tackle (unless I have managed to read the thread in an incorrect order). Given that this is not a rare occurrence for him, it is beyond niggle, it is quite simply deliberate attempts at gaining an unfair advantage. Players doing stuff like that occasionally I can live with, but not the frequency that this guy does it.



The cheap shot was a bad one, but that's not my problem with Tomkins, my problem is his actions almost every time he has been tackled in trying to win the penalty, from an England point of view there is no way the Aus refs are going to let him get away with it, it wastes time, it destroys his own team's momentum forwards (I am actually convinced he destroyed Wigan's momentum forwards on Sunday and ruined a chance for them to score by doing a perfect swan dive trying to win a penalty when he should've just played the damn ball - but I haven't had the benefit of a sky replay yet) and in short it is a c**ts trick that needs to be coached out of him by Wigan before the NRL refs do it for us at England's expense.

Yep we did but I have no complaints - we played well and they were sinmply awesome.

Think that's more a case of the NRL teams have taken it a little more serious in the past 3 years than before.

That's a load of tosh! Wigan got slaughtered down their right edge where an unfit Gleeson and very average Goulding were playing. If you honestly think that Wigan performance was better than any other SL team can perform at the top of their game there is something seriously wrong with what your seeing!

St George were well off compared to what they were doing at he back end of last year. In their prime, when the match fitness has returned and they've got a few competitive games under their belt, they are an unbelievable force but on Sunday with the mistakes they made they were there for the taking. But you just weren't good enough.

The NRL is still light years ahead of SL regardless of what some Wigan fans seem to think regarding their performance against the Dragons, at international level we can just about put out 17 competetive players on the pitch, we can match the Aussies with our props but after that were a lot weaker all over the pitch. Even James Roby our best english hooker is well behind Cameron Smith, the aussie back row is a lot more skilful and quicker. Sam Burgess isn`t as effective in the back row imo as he is up front, his best performances at international level have come as a prop. Gareth Ellis at test level looks a different player than the one that plays at club level.

Its our three quarters and half backs thats the biggest problem, their is not enough pace, creativity and skill throughout the backline. Keith Senior at his peak is the only GB three quarter in recent times thats caused them any kind of problems, thats down to him being a similar size to the aussie backs plus at his peak he had the pace and skill to go with his size.
