I wouldn't swap Westerman for Grix either. Just a shame Grixy's injury record to so horrendous. Hopefully once he's back from his injury he can get a full season. I was touting him as our next Captain at the start of last season but you need your leader on the field not in the stands.

I would say the captainship ought to go to somebody who commands respect from the players around him, him being on the field makes little difference.
That's the job of the playmaker organiser to command respect on the field.

Someone should tell Wigan and Sean O'Laughlin that.

What did they win last year? and that's no disrespect to any visitors. I don't have any facts (can't be bothered) on games played/won with SO'L in the team but I think the common consensus is that they'd like him to be playing an active part.

I don't know whether his games played ratio was better the year before when they won, but if it doesn't make a difference that 'approach' may suit Wigan due to their structured style of play. On the other hand recently we have been better with the likes of M Monaghan leading us around the park and calling the shots, or Morley 'putting the willies up the opposition' ....ooooeeer missus so we can get on top and play off the cuff, expansive RL

I'm with Wolfpack here give me a leader on the field every time, the commanding respect thing should be a given, if you've got to ask for it you probably haven't got it

If I recall we have had spells of captain on the field and a club captain, then after Briers it was Moz with Briers helping in the background last season Westwood/Mona's and through it all the captains have had long spells out injured while during those periods Brett, House, Grix, Higham, JM and Bridge have stepped in one way or another as leaders as and when needed

Duckie gets as near to it as you can captain should be someone who is respected within the club, usually a familiar player who leads by example also having a steadying influence.
