What’s happening to the ‘get out of flak kicking game’?
Specifically, what’s happened to the 20/20 kick, (or drought of them) game gone, or even a huge ‘hoof it up field’?
I’m trying to think of the last 20/20 I remember us taking?
I can only think of Tyrone Roberts vs Saints in the GF playoffs when Big Tom Lineham rounded the Saints defence easier than any team has against Wire has in 2022.
I’ll admit I haven’t been to games so regularly over C-19 and this shiitake season, so someone less fair weather than me might be able to put me straight.
Our long kicking game is poor, it isn't a strength of Ratchford, nor Williams (although the latters short kicking game seems to be improving...)

| A kick for Ashton from a scrum in our ten has been screaming out to be done all season….but not to our attacking coach or players.

ABSOLUTELY !!!!! ...... have been saying that myself for weeks now. Hopefully the 'genius' who arranges our attacking plays reads this forum.

| At present our best provider of field kicks seems to be Walker who is willing to take chances from dummy half & mix up the plays.

| Our kicking game has been abysmal for a couple of seasons now, and given we've had international, marquee halves orchestrating it in that time it's a fairly damning statement
I don't know if I'm jaded but alnost every other team seems to have at least one player who can find the floor, turn the full back and wingers round or grab a 40/20
Us? High, uncontested bombs and lame chases.
The long kick for Ashton or Wrench to chase is a great idea, but does rather rely on the kick going sone distance, staying in play and in a reasonably straight line for the chase. You see the problem?

| I'd have more confidence in Ashton or Wrench kicking it themselves!

| Isn’t it a 40/20 or have I missed something?

You can also do a 20/40 if that's what they mean?
Otherwise they could just mean a kick early in the set to get out of trouble?

I think that's what RD meant, but a 20/20 kick is possible, but has another 20 yards to go. It also could be RD's wants kicks from our own 20 to land in the opponents 20 as a way of moving play into a less threatening part of the pitch. We'll have to wait for him to elaborate.

Thank you. I didn’t have a paddle big enough then.
Room on my horse for two!
I suppose if we just kicked it straight up in the air on the 20, that could constitute a 20/20. Knowing our luck we’d all be offside anyways.
…but yes, I did mean a 40/20, but it was that long ago we took one. I forgot the maths!

| With a defence as porous as ours, there’s no point in kicking for territory. We might as well kick for Ashton/Wardle/Wrench or try a chip or 40/20.
Completely understand to long, high kick. That is designed to buy land and give chasers a chance to limit the return. But in the absence of a defence, it is rendered useless.
