Thought a 3 year deal might generate some discussion. I guess he came at the right price as he’s club-reared. Not sure what sort of dispensation we get on that, but hopefully the early season form can be rekindled combining with Williams.

| It's in the Recruitment and Retention thread. Good news all round. Getting the core of a long term squad in place.

So it is. Cheers.
I think I made the assumption that all hot ttopics get locked for in-fighting, and didn’t check.

| At this stage i'm not convinced he's worth three years because he is not exactly a worker within the team and won't be able/want to modify his game as he gets older to compensate for the current speed element that will likely disappear in that agreed time frame reducing him to potentially another highly paid passenger on the books

I don't think he will be 'highly-paid' in terms of cap space allocation, due to club-trained dispensations. So probably a low-risk investment. We could have wasted that money on somebody like Sironen, at greater cost on the cap.

| Still think he's a shadow of the player he was before his injuries. But he still shows the odd flash of brilliance every few games. Hard to see who you could fill that spot with. If you'd asked me last year I'd have said Chris McQueen, but he's been anonymous this year when I've watched Udds. Does that speak volumes about how when a whole squad is struggling the individuals don't stand out? I don't know.

| I have always been a big fan of Curries but when we are not playing well I try and keep that quiet because when we are not getting results he is one of the first under the microscope.
He is a quality player and is probably in the top 4 second rowers eligible for the England team along with Farrell, Bachelor and Whitehead.
Looking at his chase back against Catalan in the first game he doesn't look like he has lost a lot of speed after the two knee reconstructions.
It must have been pretty tough mentally to recover from one knee reconstructions then to do it again. That sort of thing must get you down.
So to play in a world cup final then recover from those injuries to get a place back in the England team is pretty good going.
I think last year was a mess and there are not many players that come out of that looking good.
But it is funny how some players look worse in defeat than others do. For example if the England football team were getting a spanking it would probably be unlikely that Stuart Pearce would be questioned. However if the team Ashley Cole was playing in got beat then Cole would probably be criticized. Would be the same with Gazza / John Barnes. Widely recognized that Cole was a better player but because Pearce is full of "passion" (over rated word in sport IMHO) and he appears to get stuck in he comes out of a defeat looking better.
It would be similar with Westwood. He plays like he looks like he cares whereas I can see why some people might have a different opinion on Currie just by the way he plays.
I reckon a Currie is a coaches dream. Hardly any errors, hardly gives penalties away, Looks after himself, apart from the 2 big ones he misses very few games, never in front of the match review panel.
I am pretty happy he is here for a few more years.

I dont get where this comes from, he's always up there defensively. Stats below are from our first loss.
Saints and Wakefield weren't great but there were a few with poor stats.
The only people ever ahead of him are hooker, loose and props which is to be expected.
Huddersfield
21 Tackles - 4th highest
2 Missed - ties 4th with 4 others
Hull
28 Tackles - 6th highest
2 missed - 8th highest
Leigh
29 tackles - 4th highest
1 missed - joint 7th with 5 others
Hull Kr
24 Tacles - 6th highest
0 Missed
Wakefield
25 Tackles- 6th in team
4 missed - ties most
Saints
27 Tackles - 4th highest
3 missed - tied 2nd with 3 others
Wigan
47 Tackles - 3rd on team
0 missed

see my problem with this is, what isnt quantified, last year he made a point of not making tackles at all, therefore, that wont get marked as a missed tackle, he's still been doing this a bit this year.
as mentioned before he's worked hard to come back from 2 acl reconstructions, but other players have done this and adapted their game, or changed, how they play maintaining their value to the team

| I can't make my mind up with currie(although I certainly wouldn't have given him THREE years!). We all know about his class and ability, but its his attitude and desire which are sometimes what let him down. Some weeks, such as catalans away chasing down that penalty try kick, he looks like he's well up for it. Yet other weeks, like Salford at home where he let's sneyd score straight past him without making an attempt, he looks like he just can't be bothered. He's a frustrating player, that's for sure.

What are the club trained dispensations mate?
Currie to me is a bit of flair player. Great for the line break, fast and skilful but in tough grind of a game, is unlikely to head to the middle of the field and take a tough carry.
There’s room in any side for him IMO

Ah okay, cheers. I didn't realise this had changed also. Maybe he's accepted a much reduced wage for a longer deal and is happy at the club.
