| Just seen that almost the entire team have signed scholarships with Saints. Apart from one who's gone to Wigan. Rylands I believe are the best team at that level so why the hell are they not signing for Warrington ? I think it's 10 or 12 lads all gone to saints.
I come in piece by the way just baffled.

| There's been some noise about it...
The Warrington board are apparently aware and not happy.
I don't exactly know what that means as to address the debacle...but at least it means they know.
That's about all anyone knows on it and as far as it has gone. Not sure if Wrlfc even has a scout in our town. It's pretty embarrassing tbh.

| Maybe they're a team with good players across the park, no weak links yet no superstars. Academies/scouting etc is all about quality not quantity. Surprised St's need to come looking in Warrington though due to that town being overrun with world class rugby talent.

| I've watched them plenty of times. They have been an unbelievably well coached team since they were under 11s. But like ratty says, they arent actually a team of superstars. If I was scouting that team for warrington I probably would've only taken 3 or 4 of them. Maybe it is their coach who we need to look at employing at the club somewhere!

I get your point but surely its a community thing as well. Just seen on Facebook that some of the local warrington coaches not happy about it mainly because you have signed 6 or more from Yorkshire clubs. Like I said it seems very bizarre.

| Wire have signed Callum Green and Reece Hamlett from Wigan U19's. They also signed Bedall and Longstaff from Wigans scholarship.
It happens, move on.

| Perhaps it's lazy scouting from St Helens, just sign the entire team up, job done? Who knows what the answer is, and it's unlikely anyone from the club is ever going to give their view on this matter.

Who's Dougie Charnock, PY? Is he a wonder kid that we missed out on, who was going to tear up SL, win several Lance Todd and Harry Sunderland trophies, and Captain GB/England to several victories over the Aussies.

Pretty much, and there was quite a bit of indignant rhetoric about losing him.
I too would love to know the coaches view on why we didn't recruit any of them, but even if we were enlightened, it's only a judgement call at the end of the day. Picking out a youngster that will definitely make SL seems to be a bit like picking the winning lottery ticket.
Why did Saints pick the whole team ? Well I don't imagine for one minute Saints believe they will all graduate to their first team squad. My guess is that they are seeing a few players they think might make the grade and realise that half their coaching work has already been done for them by Rylands. Plus, keeping a winning side together that plays for one another is a great starting point for their coaches.

Recruiting young players with potential is obviously not going to come with a 100% success rate, but you've got to be concerned that it's probably 10 years after that thread and people are still starting threads about why Warrington have missed out young players? Charnock didn't end up a bad player either, he played Super League and now at Barrow in the Championship.
The Rylands players being talked about here are players a lot of clubs wanted. There are two or three of them in particular I know are rated very, very highly. They apparantly aren't players Warrington could have looked at and decided they didn't want. I'd love to hear someone from Rylands or Warrington explain it.

| Good Luck to the 14 youngsters, my betting is that they have looked at the stats and thought they have a better chance signing elsewhere, as we all know we are not the best club at bringing our youth through. In another 4-5 years we will be lucky if we have any home grown talent the way things are going

| The recruitment and development of young players at Warrington will always receive criticism (rightly or wrongly) due to its track record of delivery and comparison with its peers less than 10 miles away.

| We don't help ourselves at all. This Rylands team are among one of the best in the North West and have been unbeaten for about 2 years (I think). They have some very highly rated players. Warrington never even bothered to have a look and scout them from what I've heard. 13 to Saints and 1 to Wigan. We never offered any of them a contract. We have the biggest pool of talent in the region yet we are letting clubs from out of town and our rivals cherry pick who they ant first. We need to spend more time on the youth developing our own.
If only we were half as proactive at developing our academy and recruiting the best young players in the town as we are are being active on social media.

| You can't categorically say that we never looked at them. Maybe we did, maybe we thought 'let some other schmucks bring em through and we'll buy the best ones off them later on with our incredible wealth'. Would probably make more economical sense. Looks like we concentrate more around the Oldham area - not been bad business in the past with Sculthorpe and Harris and aren't Thewlis and Dean from there?
Let's not forget this team is U14s not u16/17s - long way to go for any of these lads. Half of em will be lost to girls before the end of summer.
