| How do you think he has performed this year, and would you have him back next season if given the choice?
He is a very hard working player with a good attitude but I feel his kicking game is mediocre and he runs the ball too much, which stifles our backline play.
I thought against Saints he showed a worrying lack of composure second half for someone so experienced, aimless kicks, poor 5th play options and the one straight at Saints player was laughable.
I am not sure he is worth the big money he must be on, saying that I presume he is a great looking room and on the pitch presence.

MOM for me -well, apart from Hilly. His tackling was excellent, he constantly moved the ball and attacked their line. I liked the combination with Patton as well it seems to work well.

| Great in defence, a threat in attack, a leader on and off the field and for me a brilliant signing. I don't see the problem. I can see what you mean about 5th tackle plays the bomb wasn't working OK it meant that we kept saints pinned back but it was not an option we were ever likely to score off and for me it didn't put saints under enough pressure. Maybe somebody else should have been trying a different option, at the very least we should have targeted owens he dropped the only kick he tried to field.
In general though I am glad he is here and glad he will still be around next season.

| Gidley was brilliant yesterday, more so first half, but overall close to MotM, along with Hill (natch) and Patton. Mr Underrated Hughes was great too. And your comment re the kick to the St Helens' player, well wow, he didn't get every single kick where he wanted it. So what, he's human, not a machine. Top marks for Kurt Gidley.

I cannot think of a single good kick he did in the whole game, that one I mentioned was an example of a school boy error.
Doing aimless "bombs" which don't go very high or move much, or kicking into touch around the 20 metre line are not good kicks.
We should have been trapping Saints behind their line, on there line or doing quality chips to the corner with how we dominated field position at times.
Watch the nrl final on Sunday, and they will show how execute kicks that hurt the opponent, not just give them the ball back which invites pressure, which we seen yesterday.

Have you stopped to consider that the high kicks were a tactic devised by Tony Smith and executed by Gidley and Patton? I reckon Gidley made only one really poor kick ( straight to Lomax - and even then the Wire line speed snuffed out any danger ) and several others did the job of pinning Saints back deep in their own half. How you can slag off Gidley when he has been excellent all season is beyond me. Perhaps you didn't notice that he made the Dream Team?

| But Gidley doesn't do that sort of thing. He did what the team needed last night.

We nearly lost against a poor Saints team because we invited pressure for the last 20 minutes, poor 5th play options and kicks were the catalyst for that.
He certainly didn't do what the team needed, if he did we win yesterday's game comfortably.

For twenty years we continuously lost to Saints by narrow margins. No doubt we were brilliant in all those games against outstanding Saints teams. Maybe I lack ambition but I'll take a close win over a 'poor' Saints team in a play-off semi any time.

Of course, but that doesn't mean being oblivious to poor play.

| I can't really believe we are having this discussion. Were you sitting behind me last night and after 10 minutes commented "Our defence is awful"?
