| Not sure what started it last night. They do have a bit of history from last season at Cas, seem to remember Carney having a bit of a swipe at Sims and him laughing it off

| Think Sims said something to him, Carney reacted.
If that had turned into Biff I'd have stopped moaning about paying £25 for a ticket at a tin pot stadium.

| Carney committed exactly the same offence that got Ben Currie sinbinned on Chris Hill (Albeit he couldn`t ruffle Chris`s hair, since he wears a scrum cap).
No penalty, in same game, & with same referee!!!
Unbelievable!!!

| I think the sin-binning wasn't really for that offence it was a way to try and stop all the niggle that had been going on, and it worked. Normally ruffling someones hair shouldn't be a sin-binning but it was a build up of frustration from Hicks, but as I said before it worked like a dream

Whilst i think you're right, the referee isn't allowed to sinbin someone to prevent them from committing an offence - they have to actually have committed one.

| Well it's certainly not our style to niggle or wind up the opposition players. I can't imagine Mr Smith employing those sorts of people.

| I cannot imagine Carney pushing Morley or Boyd in the face.

My view is that Carney was working off the back of the Currie incident and trying to incite Sims to retaliate as he has been known to do just in the past. It didn't work and credit to Sims for that and resulted in Carney coping 10 mins rest.

Except that a salford player got himself sinbinned right after it.
If he wanted to stop the niggle, he should have binned Masilla for wrapping his forearm and elbow all round curries face in the tackle, had he binned him for that, currie wouldn't have got up and tried to wind him up.
Crappest sin binning since 2003 in the cup when they brought in sin bins for chucking the ball away, and we played 30 minutes of the second half down to 12 as we got 3 players binnned seperately for it, no one else did ever again though, crazy.

Incorrect. A referee can sin bin someone to prevent an offence happening. To be honest I think Hicks binned them both to calm the game down, and as previously stated in this thread, it worked a treat.

That cannot possibly be true - how on earth can a referee know a player is going to commit an offence in the future. If they could then i'd also like next weeks lottery numbers.

| The referee sin binned players for offences. The reason that the hair-ruffle one is being talked about is, whilst it was technically an offence, it was done by the referee to try and restore some control over the game. Personally, I think his heavy handed whistle blowing contributed to that (well if he's going to blow for everything lets make it worthwhile) rather than it being a symptom of a "dirty game"
