| Considering the mass hysteria on here, Facebook and Twitter since the final hooter at the HJ, I think it confirms once and for all Warrington ARE Wigan's 'biggest rivals' despite the denial from their fans.
When the game ended I thought the Pies had wrapped up a win in the World Club Challenge given how mental they went, not two points in the Super 8s.
Wigan's main enemy is obviously Wire rather than St Helens (or Leeds) thesedays.

| You're right what you say if you believe it.
You got battered tonight and to be nilled at home would suggest to me that you'd have better things to mither about than the trivial you've just posted.
But hey, you've always flattered to deceive.

| Winning any game away from home is rare for us but to win 28-0 really is something else!
Our biggest rivalry is always changing due to the nature of the club. I'd say back in 2011/12/13 it was certainly our biggest game in terms of the here and now (or the there and then)but it's now dropped back behind our games against Leeds and Saints.
Historically Saints will always be our main game but circumstance means that every so often the odd fixture will temporarily overtake it.

| If pretty sure our fans would be quite happy if they had just seen a convincing Warrington thrashing to nil of Wigan on their own ground and Warrington were cemented into the playoffs.

Ignore the OP, he only ever comes on the Leeds board after we've lost a game to re-ignite the long running 'McDermott Out' thread.

| Bit confused about the Penny hand given as a knock on by the VR in one of our no tries whereas Sinfield's blatant knock on against Wigan last week received no such sanction.

| I believe Wire-Wigan was the old big North-west rivalry in many of the early decades of RL, don't think Saints were on either club's radars back then as they were nobodies.

, the smellies
I disagree with that mate. I've been watching RL since 1973. In that time Wigan, Bradford, Huddersfield, Widnes and numerous other clubs including ourselves have all had spells in the doldrums, even relegated but I never once remember Saints having a bad season, It would be interesting to know the lowest finishing position over the last 40 years.
For me the smellies game has always been our greatest derby.

I think you are right.
Not sure when Wigan v Saints became the Derby but was around the time when Jim Sullivan left as Wigan coach to go to Saints. Prior to that Saints were second tier.
Personally in the last few years Wigan v Wire for atmosphere has been the game of the season.
The other year when you brought around 5 or 6 thousand to the jjb the atmosphere was brilliant.

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

For many years Saints were second to Saints Recs in the town. When Recs folded a lot of their fans to supporting Wigan rather than Saints. Leigh were also big Wigan rivals back in the day, Wire were always a way behind in the rivalry status for Wigan.

| Yes, it depends how far back you go and seems to change as the fortunes of clubs change. Back in the fifties (yes I'm afraid I do remember back that far) I always felt it was Wire vs. Wigan but Saints were also good at that time. There was the Bevan, Boston, Vollenhoven debate. Widnes were nothing, but decades later they were more sucessful than we were. Long term memory seems to be OK. At my age the short term memory is supposed to be going; pity it isn't working for the game last night.

I'm talking about way back. Saints won pretty much nowt for the first 80 years of their existence. Then from the 1950s onwards they started winning major trophies, became a big club and never looked back. But before then they weren't an important club in RL.
