| Doesn't interest me in the slightest these days but I won't take anything away from those who enjoy it.
It just pains me seeing the power of international sport and thinking about the potential test rugby league has, if only the Australians weren't so insular and self serving.

| I think it serves as a warning, pay people too much and they don't care if they win or lose. Hopefully they will get a few new tattoos or a new stretch hummer to get over it.

| English football and English RL have one thing in common : the international game is a country mile behind the club game in the minds of most spectators, in terms of importance.
That's why England's next World Cup win in footy is as far away as an England win in the RL equivalent. Hang on in there for another 50 years and you might be around to see one or the other.

| I like watching England in these big competitions. you can clearly see though the "our year" theme is slipping away and people are beginning to be less obsessed with the England team. I may be wrong but i certainly haven't seen the frenzy of recent years...
Italia 90 was a great tournament - well to be fair I think the Actual games were bobbins - but I thoroughly enjoyed going to my local and Watching them in a fabulous atmosphere.
in my eyes the sport of football is ordinary and the world cup isn't exactly State of Origin, but its an enjoyable occasion.
Its like x factor, its a bit rubbish, but it appeals to lots of people, and there is always someone talking about it. I wish rugby League was the same...

| I want England to win in everything, I never used to want Union to win but I do now, don't get me wrong I love seeing the union side get beat but when there is a crisis they start looking at our game a bit closer.
I like them being good enough to think everything is rosey but not good enough to win anything of note.

Italia 90 was great, they were wonderful times. Me and my mates watched many of the games in the back room of the Barley Mow which was ram jam full every game, then my mates celebrated every England win by carrying me to the fountain that used to be opposite Alice in Wonderland and dropping me in it's stagnant, murky water.
Happy days.

Really? We were torturously close to a World Cup final last November in one of the greatest games I have seen. I don't blame him, but had Sinfield not darted out of the line we would have been through to the final, who knows what could have happened with 70,000 in Old Trafford cheering us on...

You can't seriously be bringing tattoos into the 'debate' given that we have some of the most 'decorated' sportsmen on the planet

| The World Cup has been great so far. Usually the group stages don't offer that much but most games have been good. It bodes well for the rest of the tournament.
Not bothered about England though.

| I watched a programme about the good & bad points of disability scooters last night & i suspect it was more entertaining than Engerland ! I think our international football team needs some inspired refreshment on the pitch ,players who will inspire other players instead of the perpetual whining of the boys who can do no wrong ,Gerard & Rooney. You see them two misery gutsies & the team is beaten before a ball has been kicked. They might be good footballers ,but are they inspirational ?

| Sick to death of these threads whenever something football related comes up. If you don't like it, then fair enough, you are not forced to watch it, but don't start something to try and drum up support for others who dislike football.
I love football, really enjoyed this world cup, haven't enjoyed seeing England faulter but I'm used to it by now.
Poor show, this thread.

It makes some people feel better if they watch a tough game like RL rather than a soft wimpy game like football, despite them ever playing either.
