| Following on from the previous thread and in a desperate attempt to life the gloom pervading this forum (which is rich coming from a Mozza fan), how about some fantasy recruitment?
You can bring in any five players from Warrington teams of the past, any nationality, any era, salary and quota no object, into the current squad to improve things. Who do you go for and why? What you have to consider is not who from the past was the best, necessarily, but who possessed talents the current squad are lacking.
So, I'll start things off. I'd bring in :
John Woods (for obvious playmaking, kicking abilities)
Mark Roberts (to inject some strike-power and pace into the forwards)
Jonathan Davies (for obvious pace, class and utilitiy value)
Bob Jackson (workrate)
Bob Eccles (ball playing guile and intelligence in the forwards).
And no, there isn't a prize.

| Alex Murphy, John Woods, Phil Blake, Dave Chishall, Les Boyd.
So the current team would be:-
1 Russell
2 Evans
3 Bridge
4 Blake
5 Joel
6 Woods
7 Murphy
8 Chisnall
9 Higham
10 Boyd
11 Waterhouse
12 Westwood
13 Grix
14 Hill
15 Dwyer
16 Wood
17 Ratchford
I'm keeping Ratchford on the bench for versatility as a back.
I'm gonna have myself a dream about that team tonight winning at Wembley!

| 1. Allan Langer at scrum half - for all too obvious reasons ... probably the player with the greatest rugby league brain i have ever had the privelige to watch - pure genius
2. Phil Blake at stand off - blistering pace, pure unpredictability ... one of his 1st tries for Warrington against Widnes in the Lancs Cup Semi v Widnes in 85 sums him up perfectly. Widnes drop the ball on the half way, Blake scoops it up, chips over the top and wins the race to the ball in the corner ..... no free plays and zero tackles in those days
3. Jonathon Davies to play in the centres - for, as mentioned before, his pace and class ( and goal kicking ) .... the man could waltz through a defence without a finger being laid on him.
4. Brian Johnson - a proper full back .. an outstanding attacking fullback but solid defensively. fantastic at knowing when and where to inject himself in the attacking line. And he wore proper rugby boots.
5. Danny Nutley - we need a starting hard working prop forward desperately. this man fits the bill perfectly.

| I was very tempted by picking Johnson too, but I didn't want to have to weaken the front row to do so and being forced to play Asotasi off the bench!!!!
This way he's starting at Swinton and England is at St John's Ambulance.

| Bobby Fulton - one of the all time greats (& Stockton Heath lad if memory serves)
John Bevan - one of the best finishers, unstoppable near the line & great defence.
Steve Hesford - best kicker I have seen and top full back, superb under high ball
Tommy Martyn - one of the best ball handling loose forwards
Mike Gregory - Captain fantastic, a true leader who lead by example

| M.Gregory: Purely on leadership alone forgetting his talent. We need a general, he's been the best we've had.
Davies: Pace, skill, kicking ability, never say die attitude.
Nikau and Boyd: Biff, housery not afraid to mix it and talent.
Murphy: Fiery gobe genius

Fantastic choice but I might be tempted to include Mike Nicolas.

| We need two forwards so Boyd and Roberts for class and biff. We need two centres so Davies and King. And we need an organiser/general so briers.

| Forget actually talent if you were to put together the hardest team of players in each position then how would you line up?
By hard I don't necessarily mean guys who like the biff but just genuine tough as teak guys.
