Disciplinary reasons along with McIllorum and Hardaker.

| It seems Hock's claim of being unfairly treated has some merit considering half the team were out on the lash with him.

That's why this is all so unfair, he is being persecuted.

| The correct message regardless of talent, I stand by McNamara on this.

| If McNamara had any gonads he would have insisted the squad be teetotal for the duration of the tournament, anybody caught out....straight home.

If The RFL had any gonads they wouldn't have appointed this muppet in charge in the 1st place... poor coach

| The players need to take responsibility here. Just shows to me that our players couldn't give a rats about the WC and feel they have no chance of winning it.
Should be the pinnacle of your career, a World Cup competition, in any sport.
I would have dropped all those who ignored the ban.

| The only reason McNamara is annoyed is because he was not invited to the night out.

| BrianBradyHandOff wrote" Supposedly one of the key players...What's going on ?"
What's going on is another demonstration of the coaches man-management skills.
We saw them earlier in relation to Atkins, then again when he convinced Danny Brough
he would be better off playing for Scotland.
In this case, it should have been stated at the outset that any indiscipline from any player
would result in expulsion from the squad.
Without knowing all the details, I tend to agree with his actions but the initial inclusion
of Hock must be a cause of concern.
I think it also has to reflect very poorly on the attitude of some of the players.
What kind of professional sportsman/athlete would even consider going out on
the booze on virtually the eve of one of the most important competitions of their careers ?
Seems like total contempt for the game, their clubs, their families and the paying fans.

| To be honest I can't believe the players have to be told there's a drinking ban! It shouldn't even be an issue, their supposed to be professionals , why would you dream of going out on the pop the week before the World Cup opener in beyond me! Drink as much as you want at the end of the tournament! X

| I've put this as a separate point and what they've done is not professional.
But historically there have been players - including Moz - who have done stupid things (like getting caught drunk driving during the Ashes series when Britain were sponsored by 'don't drive drink' campaign).
I raise this just to put another view.
But in this day and age - an even back then - it's simply not on.
We need every advantage we can get to face the Aussies in order to stand any chance of coming close - let alone winning.
I doubt the Aussies are all saints - and maybe there are things that go on behind the scenes with them that are not ''professional'' but the point is they are the team to beat so it doesn't really matter what they do.
We can only look after ourselves.
Were the ground rules clear? Arguably yes
Was the punishment for each of them consistent? All excluded from the first game.
Hock late to rehab - and not sure in what state when he did turn up. Punishment? Maybe harsh, maybe not but he's simply plain stupid. Unfortunately it's his own fault.
He loses out and England lose out.
Challenging the coaches authority could only end up one of 2 ways. Player loses out or coach loses out.
