| This game is going the wrong way, a bit of biff is part of the entertainment of the game.
Listening to the commentators you would have thought he had half killed him instead of what amounted to a little warning.
I am worrying about the future of this game as it's beginning to follow the way football went at the back end of the 80's into the 90's and it will turn a lot of the speccy's away.

| Agreed. Briers maybe over reacted but he's not a dirty player as some are suggesting..
Im sure his good disciplinary record will stand before him

| Listening to the Virtual Terrace, you would have thought Briers had committed murder too. Really are some whining asshats on that forum.

| its mostly all sour grapes from Leeds fans because they got beat so easily..... Or Wigan fans who just hate Briers because he is so good.
Im looking forward to the meltdown that will ensue from the slap on the wrist and small fine that will come his way.

Don't forget the Saints fans, they've had a lot to say on the subject too.

| What people should be moaning about is the lack of consistency across the referees - on another day with a different ref, Briers would have walked.
I enjoy the biff but thought that Briers was cowardly and reacted to nothing illegal.

| I saw the incident live and thought it was a bit of handbags & it deserved a penalty or at most 10 minutes for Lee.
I have now seen it on replay last night via the BBC & I now think it was a yellow card & a warning letter to Lee from the RFL or at most a fine and loss of a EGP for 12 months. If Lee gets banned it would be the wrong decision.
If as some Leeds fans are calling for it is the end of Lee's season I would be shocked.

| Right your all backing your player I get that, but i'd like to see your reactions if the likes of Hock turned round and smacked one of your players on the back of the head...?
It'd be the restart of the ban him for life campaigns. But St Briers can get away with it

| this season weve had mcguire punching cudjoe in the cup game early on in the season and nothing happened a wigan player taking out obrien and obrien leaving the field and again no punisment,so if sir lee gets a ban then it makes a mockery of the system...

I'd be wondering why whythe referee didn't pick up the high tackle that caused it in the first place.

There was no high tackle. HTH.
Do you think Briers should have been sent off? If not, why not?

| As the footage shows, Ablett caught Briers on the chops and then grabbed his shirt collar and scragged him down. Looks ugly but is part of the game. Briers took exception to the clatter on the chops and give Ablett a quick punch. Penalty to Leeds and 10 minutes for Briers is as far as it goes. Ablett laughing at Briers for the total lack of strength in the punch was funny and worth another 10 yards.
Just for consistency I'm guessing that the panel will review the sly dig that Bailey gave to Ratchford before Harrison pushed him over.

| I think the main problem is consistency. IF Childs had given him 10 I dont think much would have been said other than maybe the feeble of the punch.
I said on another thread that I think Abblett saved him by laughing at him and not retaliating and even the melee (if you can call it that) was to make sure no one started anything.
If Briers was sent for 10 or worse sent off, would the result be the same? The only thing for certain atm was that it remained 13 v 13 and Wire took the advantage. Best seen by the next tackle (I think) were they forced a knock on by Abllett, (wont say anything about the shoulder by Wood). But Leeds should have been doing that to Briers and making sure he got hit good and hard either legally or not.
IMO Briers should get at least a one match ban. For two reasons, firstly there was intent to hit a man blind sided, you can laugh all you want about Briers punching like my two year old niece. But what it is to stop someone doing a proper job of connecting with someone next time? A bit like the tip tackle it has the potential to cause serious injury but how many of them actually do?
Secondly, I said earlier that Ablett had saved Briers getting any card. I certainly do not want to see players rolling on the floor feigning injury just like they do in football just to make sure justice is done.

| Did my eyes deceive me or did Ablett take Briers high (however lightly) in the face before grabbing his collar?
