| What did we think of this weeks Boots n All
Only just got over last seasons Phil Clarke does Stats to death, well this year they have give us SUPER SAM training some kids how to play rugby and market a rugby team, load of e !!!
This weeks topped the lot they have got golden rat boy on the red carper for the SuperMan premier.
What the bloody hell has this got to do with rugby league I ask
Purposley dont watch the programme live usually so I can fast forward through the Sam Tomkings fascination part
Anyway he has finally shown his commitment to the PIES by begging Russell Crowe to give me contract at Souths
Thought Crowe handled him brilliantly and brought him back down to earth
Thoughts ?

| I think he is by far the best player in the league... he also comes across very well on TV.

I thought it was the other way around. Crowe can be a difficult character but Tomkins got a decent interview out of him despite him being a far from natural broadcaster.

Er The film's called Man of Steel and Superleague has a trophy called Man of Steel, which is currently held by the man himself.
The film also stars a high profile actor who also happens to own a club.

Like I said must just be me who thought it was a load of crap then

| I think Boots n All, Sky tv and the whole of RFL will rue the loss of Tomkins. It will be a similar case to St Helens. Putting all their eggs in one basket with a player (Eastmond) only for that player to walk off.
Who will be the next face of Rugby League? I can't think of someone who is young and as a fan not too concerned that they will move to the NRL.

| ive not seen the actual piece, so wont comment on that, but i did read his bit in the mail, and as the vast majority of what he writes there, it came across pretty well. can only see positives getting the best player in the super league to appear at one of the biggest film openings with one of the biggest actors in the world, who is also a rugby league man. russell crowe does an awful lot of promotion for the game of rugby league, and sam is doing the same. fair play to them both

I'll tell you what it's got to do with Rugby League. POSITIVE PUBLICITY from the best player in the game, that's what.

i am struggling to see how this is POSITIVE PUBLICITY ? what impact do you expect this to have on the game to create this POSITIVE PUBLICITY

| To be honest the RFL should seize ANY opportunity to thrust Tomkins into the limelight and the media - he's young, clean-living, supremely fit, extremely talented, dedicated and the kind of role model that any parent would want their child to aspire to.
Yes, he wears the wrong colour jersey, but there are plenty of players who have worn the P&B down the years who I wouldn't want anywhere near a microphone or camera.

Yes, I do mean SL. Anything that doesn't knock the game (as you are doing) is positive publicity. We may not be too keen on Sam, but anyone with any intelligence whatsoever must admit that he's a superb player. I can go back to when Alex murphy joined us as player-coach. Overnight he went from being a pariah to the best thing since sliced bread. If Sam signed for us the same thing would happen. Sam is the nearest thing we've got to Box Office. We have to use him in any way we can.

| I thought it was absolutely brilliant. Tomkins is the closest thing to a household name we have had in a long time, the game needs to make the most of him and Sky have done that brilliantly this year through the Wiggo ad and the red carpet yesterday. The fact that he plays for our rival is immaterial, nobody on this board would have a complaint if he played for us and the circumstances were the same.

the fact that he doesn't play for us is probably a good thing. wigan are the household name in british rugby league, and sam is doing all he can to build the wigan club and the game in general up as much as he can. hopefully a few more young, media friendly players can join him, maybe even one or two from our club

aboveusonlypie...
If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.:icons39ad_files/4821-1859san_c-msnicons.jpg |
