I was stood in the fairly long queue on Saturday waiting to renew my season ticket and I noticed that some of the t-shirts in the shop had a date of 1876 and some had 1879 as the date that the club was formed.
There was even one particular t-shirt that in one color had 1876 and in another color had 1879. Yes I was bored but I would like to know what is the official date the club formed? According to the official web site's history section it's 1879 but why then are we selling official merchandise with 2 different dates on it?
Any club history experts out there that can shed some light?

Wikipedia quotes both dates, so given that its the source of all things true and factual, then the club was obviously formed in both 1876 and 1879.

Thanks for that - really interesting read. Seems like the club have got themselves mixed up a bit then having some merchandise still with 1879 on it!

Zingari is a far cooler name than Wolves.
Rogues from the Wigan board was at that game at the Riverside in 1876, he still protests to this day that T. Wallington should have been sent off.

Glad it was of interest, considering most people won't notice the difference there wouldn't be much point in getting rid of the 1879 stock, easier to just slowly replace it.

They could be leftovers from when it was thought 1879 was the year. |

Most probably but they were underneath a sign saying "New Range" and not part of the discounted sale stuff, it was just bugging me and I knew there had to be more to it than a typo on the order to the supplier! |
