| but at least we don't dress like it."
Banner in the Widnes corner to the left of our end.
Now I'm not disputing that Warrington is a town full of tramps, but 'kinell, style abuse from Widnes?!

| I've got a bit of History in Widnes. I went to college there in the early 90's, went out drinking there and eventually married a Widnes girl. I've also worked and played for a football team there.
When it comes to fashion they were always in the dark ages. It's a bit different now because of the way fashion and styles have gone; from mass marketing, media, accessability and availability of clothes from the internet and chain stores.
But back in the day, most Warringtonians who were interested in fashion were mainly influenced from Manchester or Liverpool. A lot of lads would be at United or Liverpool on a Saturday and take that terrace culture and fashion back home on a Saturday night and then on to the Wire games on Sunday. There were also a few indepedent shops in Warrington town centre selling designer gear.
Widnes had one shop, Tom Bowe, who mainly sold Ben Sherman, then after that it is was Burtons or the market. All the Widnes lads I knew whould save up there hard earned and going out in Widnes at the end of the month was like a Ben Sherman convention. It put my off Ben Sherman for life.
It made me laugh years ago when one of my in laws was taking the p1ss saying that Warrington lads had only just dicovered Rockport boots. When the truth was we'd abeen wearing them for years and had stopped wearing them by then.

| I remember the trackies and Rockport boots combo being huge in Warrington around 1999.
In the modern era I think JJB and Sports Direct have combined to ensure rugby league grounds in general - bearing in mind the sport is primarily played in small North West towns and Yorkshire - fashion disasters from one end of the M62 to the other.
Getting slagged off for this by Widnes fans - albeit on a very shoddy painted bedsheet probably put up by scarfers - is a new low though!

| The group of Football Factory Wannabe's that made that banner marched past the Cricketers holding it aloft and giving it the big un... Made me laugh it looked like it was written in crayon...
During the game they also revealed another banner...And this one was about the 89 win against the jet lagged Aussies...The Smelly fans just can't let go ...

I didn't notice that, but although I don't regard the WCC all that highly - qualifying for it is far more important than actually winning it in my opinion - if we were to win the GF I'd be desperate for us to win that too, simply because we all know its the one thing Widnes fans still feel they have over us and I want them to have no more straws to clutch at.

I went to that game* wanted Widnes to lose obviously. That was a good Canberra side that Widnes beat, credit to them.
Seem to remember Jiffy nearly having his head taken off by a shocking clothesline.
[size*No idea what I was wearing, sorry.[/size

| Didn't know they could write in Widnes. Fair play to them.
