| Reminds me of the abandoned game at KR when we were winning but the game got called off because the wind was blowing the roof off in the stand where Rugby Leagues best supporters were.
I can't remember the year though

1989, at least the panels from KR lasted about 100 years, not a couple of months like these
Just think what it would be like if we had the bad weather like in Scotland or the south.

| Even in its current state its a big improvement on Knowsley Rd.
Is it definitely the wind thats caused this ? To me its got all the hallmarks of a break in, probably a couple of thick scousers that thought their would be lead on the roof.

Yeah definitely the wind. It's happened a few weeks ago when we had strong wind on a much smaller scale. Shoddy job by the roofers by the looks of it.

Easy to balme the builders however I do wonder whether this is a consequence of having a gap between the top of the cladding and the roof. It would seem that this damage is a result of up-lift force applied to the roof sheets by wind funnelling through this gap. Did the original design that got planning (done by experienced architects BDP) include this gap? It is a strange feature and one which the specified roofing system may not be tried and tested with. Once you start moving into untried areas of design strange things can occur (think of the Millenium Bridge in London).
If this is the same area that suffered damage the other month (I understand it is) then when doing the repair you can be sure that the contractors would have be especially careful to follow installation instructions and not to cut corners. This would lead me to believe that a design or specification error may be the cause.

If you look at the pictures above you can see it was caused by wind hitting the side of the stadium and bending the roofing back. If it was caused by winds with a strong upward force the vast majority of the debris would be scattered all over the site rather than in the vicinity below. However, all suggestions are plausible until a proper investigation has taken place, which I would say is needed this time around.

Exactly. This should be taken very seriously. I have doubts over the game on the 20th.

Given how tight building regs are these days especially where the public are involved i can't see this stadium being signed off by building control in the near future, they will need to find out why this has happened more than once, to sign it off as complete and safe they will need to be 100% certain that it won't happen again and at the min that can't be guaranteed.
At a guess i'd say its a structural issue as the design has been changed since the original blueprints were given the ok, it will have different stress and weak points now. When stadiums are designed they will take into account swirling winds inside that put an upwards pressure on a roof, it certainly shouldn't be happening as these arn't the strongest winds that were gonna get.
It could be something as simple dodgy fastenings that arn't strong enough to keep the roof in place, dodgy workmanship or at worse the structural integrity of the stadium needs a rethink.

Fully Agree Senior Fatbelly. Something needs to be sorted with that corner of the ground before a game is even played there, there have been far too many Stadia related disasters in sport as it is... let's not bring RL down that route also
