| Great to see and hear a good reception for Richie yesterday. Thought he may have been booed by the majority, but when he came out to practice early, proper respect was shown, and he appreciated it......then we knocked his new team into another postcode!!

please explain
Why?
He never let us down
Was one of the most talented players to wear our kit, in decades
was honest to say he wanted out.

General rule of thumb in all sports when players leave: if they leave for a bigger club they get hated. If they leave for a club further down the pecking order they leave with best wishes. There are exceptions to that but mostly it holds, its because fans hate the thought that a player is moving on to bigger and better things.
Fozzard, Harris and Gleeson all left us and won titles at bigger clubs and got hated as judases. Mathers has taken a step down to a team we wiped the floor with so it's easier to be nice.

As Sall sez.
The point is. Martin thought he was better than Warrington. It is fair; he has a right to think that. We also haev a right to give him stick when he comes home.
Alos, yes he was great and talented. But he has always brought the game of rugby into the realm of a joke. His drinking and betting are embarrassing.
Richie left because the club didn't have a place for him. He wanted a better contract not a better club. Also, he was a lovely guy who the highest he ever gets is a costa in the morning (excluding the exuberance he shows on the field)
The end of the day, a player has to command respect. Glesson has NEVER done that. Fozzard loved it at Wire but his hand was really forced by Sts offering the moon to him, he deserves respect.
I would compare him to someone in the team now, however God got rid of the stragglers and good for him.

I only ever read stories on the internet about Gleeson's off field behaviour, I never saw evidence of it affecting him on the field? It's just like Briers, there has been crap written about him on the internet for years.
If Briers had signed for Wigan in 2009 and we'd had their fans crowing with excitement about the signing like they did Gleeson, we would have been slagging Briers off no end, saying he was a 'bad influence' and all that.

| IMO Gleeson didn't want to play for us, Mathers did.
Gleeson thought he was too good for Wires and Smith did the right thing getting shut when he did.
Mathers moved on because he knew he wasn't going to get much game time and we saw how gutted he was about leaving when he was almost in tears at the last game of the season.
Warm welcome he got last night was well deserved as was the stick Gleeson got a couple of weeks earlier.

| I'd love to know when Gleeson said he was to good for the club, or are we all Dr Anthony Clairs now, and experts in human psychology.
Gleeson turned Fa'afili (another player regularly lambasted by our club's 'fans') into a try machine. Can't do right for doing wrong, international Test players, can they?
Could you just imagine King signing for another SL club, and returning and getting a warm reception from certain 'fans', who conveniently forgotten the famous finger incident

| Our pack could be the Super Six
and Martin Gleeson and Lee Briers would be on "lashings of 'ginger' beer"
