| Another standard TS interview. I guess we would all like to know how the team will shape up long term. Have you pressed him on new signings, who he sees in which position etc There are some obvious players for certain positions but we still have some obvious omissions, e.g centres, loose forward, half backs
We all wnat to see how TS will stamp his mark on the team

I have asked him about new signings, shape of team e.t.c numerous times - lets face it he aint go to tell us who who is after just in case someone else gets them!

As i said last week, I dont reckon you are gonna get much change out of Tony Smith.
Each weeks interview will eventually become a carbon copy of the previous weeks and so on.
Maybe it might be an idea to get Lowes on camera as he isn't very good at disguising his true feelings and thoughts.
Also what about an interview with Nigel Wright?

| The only reason Smith's going to give the same sorts of answers is if he gets the same questions. He's a good talker and has a lot of technical knowledge about the game.
How about put some technical questions about how the side plays and what the thinking behind it is....or some questions about how he develops a plan for supervising the development of juniors from schoolboy age through Academy through to first team.
Or ask about whats going on at Newcastle Knights where his brother Brian is coaching, how he's totally restructured the club....what has Tony learned off Brian?
It would make for some educated discussion on the forums if we were talking about some real issues in the game not just who are we signing, is this player injured, do you think we can beat this team etc.
This isn't a criticism of your interviews Gary, you often ask the questions that the public want to know which is of course the journalists job, I think the questions we want to know should vary a bit and be more intellectual in a rugby sense? TS is a rugby league brain, we should take advantage of this and get some education...

Would you let the opposition know what your plans are?
I have noticed a steady change in recent years where coaches will not disclose who is playing where, how badly injured a player is, what they have said to players, what changes they are implementing e.t.c
The facts are anyone can beat anyone these days, so they are trying to keep their cards close to their chest.
I'd also need to have a technicla brain to ask technical questions - and that is asking far too much!

| I do agree about Nigel Wright. I could have listened to him wax lyrical all night at the Squadbuilder meeting, a very interesting and amiable bloke.
Any chance of an interview at some point, Skents?

| As Gary says you need to have an idea about the game technically to ask that kind of question.
Maybe try this and see what response it gets.
When coaching defensive structure do you think it is better to cover different percentages of the pitches width depending whether you are in your red or green zone or would you just use a rigid structure whereby the players are evenly spread no matter where they are on the pitch. Also do you use different defensive structures dependent on your oppositions strengths and weaknesses?
May get an interesting response or he could just laugh at you.

You don't need to ask that just watch the game and the answer is clear. Warrington very rarely play a compressed sliding defence and I doubt you would change the structure becasue that would create uncertainty and indecision.

words can't decribe how someone who has such knowledge of the club can make a comment like that. are you trying to be funny?
