| before anything else, I will say first of all that I didn't think Wire today were 28 : 6 bad today ..... I thought Cas played an excellent defensive game and we simply couldn't break them down
I will also say to the "fans" who are hell-bent on booing, simple : stay away and give the loyal fans a chance to support the team at this difficult time (something the players do need). The club doesn't need booers but loyal supporters
my longer-term concern is the snow-ball effect : it's difficult to see where our next win will come from in this topsy-turvy SL campaign. Our play-off hopes in my opinion are gone now and we are playing for pride only
the risk is that come season end we have many players out-of-contract and (I suspect) unlikely to be re-signed., additionally we have the likes of King & Monaghan who (most likely) will go back home
if we finish lowly position in the table (and this is highly likely) what chances do we have to attract high-caliber replacement players ?? season ticket sales will suffer., crowds will fall., SL licence retention criteria likely at risk ??
I'm not trying to open the trap-door by any means, but I concur with many other spectators who question our half back & scrum half playmakers and this area needs resolving and fast
we have to remain positive and hope for some positive form & results., but of the remaining 18 games even with a 50% win rate 24 points come season end is simply not good enough

| Good post.....From a business view of this, Simon Moran and the board must be very, very worried.
There is little doubt that crowds are going to dwindle, and with it much needed income....Like you pointed out, on the field, things are going to be going through a long term transistional phase, there is little chance of a dramatic improvement.
You can only hope that come 2011 we have begun to show an improvement, because by then Widnes or Leigh will be eager to take over this area's franchise.

| Great post, I admit I wasn't too pleased walking away from the ground today, but eh, That's the game for you.
In response to your bit about attracting players to the HJ I feel were in a better position with Smith at the helm and hopefully his standing in the game will influence players to come and play.
Fell sick though

| Agree with some of your comments although I thought the scoreline did show how bad we were. I also am concerned that this and last season will have a longer term effect on income to the club.
We already have a thread on whether the club are in financial trouble but surely the lack of form of the first team is having a negative affect on support base, current and prospective sponsors.
On the positive our reserves appear to be doing well so that must be a good point for the future.

| From a business point of view, yes alarms bells should be ringing; we have spent big but are in poor form. This is a results game and crowds are going to dwindle.
But from my own point of view - GOOD. Maybe the glory hunters will stay at home, the club will stop throwing money at players and we can rebuild from the ground up.

| Don't have nightmares people.
The one about us losing the franchise, is not going to happen. We've got the stadium, facilities and a junior development programme better than most of the others, and this will keep us in even if we have some poor seasons on the field. Leigh haven't got a chance of a franchise, Widnes have a slim chance and I think more credibly Toulouse will have a strong bid in 2011....the vulnerable clubs are going to be the ones who scraped through with Grade C franchise applications last time not a Grade A like us.
Warrington will turn things around now. The decisions that needed to be made have been made, the right people are on board steering the ship now, Smith heading up the first team and Bastian the junior set up.
Tony Smith has inherited the legacy of a number of years of poor decision making. If we were still in a relegation system then I think a few short term signings would come in to steady the ship but now we're in an Australian system he'll approach it like the Aussie coaches do when they come to struggling clubs and lay down foundations that take a while to kick in. In his first season as a head coach at Hudds, he lost the first 15 games of the season, and in the final 13 games they picked up six wins and a draw - if that form had been repeated over the full season they'd have been in the top six, but it meant they finished with the wooden spoon which then meant relegation. There's no relegation for us this season.
I think we should sit back chill out and view this as an opportunity to have a season where the results don't matter as much as finding things out about players. Smith will have a number of new players coming in 2010 who will improve the side, but he is going to need to select a core of existing players to take the club forwards....the rest of this year will decide who.

I like this. Except for the highlighted plural.
