I attended the fans forum with Steve Price, Karl Fitzpatrick & Prof Broomhead last night. Below is a summary of what was said, its not verbatim because a lot was said.

I was very impressed with Steve Price, he spoke about when he looked back at last season he thought our middle defence was okay but our edge defence needed a fast remedy because we were leaking tries. He said Tyrone Roberts has only had 6 live training sessions with us and it does show and he's expecting our attack to improve when Tyrone gets more game time with Ratch, Daryl, Kev Brown & Dec Patton. Defence is currently his main focus. Said that he is putting in place 2 mini teams of 4 on each edge with a captain for each team. Last Friday SP said Bryson shot out of the line which worked but if it didn't " I would be well up his a%%e" "Things will take time". All 3 speakers were very much in favour of a reserve grade comp & SP spoke how this would improve opportunities for 1st teamers coming back from injury & 1st team players not in the weekends 17. All 3 said Zak Hardaker was class but they indicated Warrington will not be making a bid for him. Steve said he operates a "no d**head policy" at the club (but this was said generally and not in relation to any player). KF & SB spoke about the need for a good new RFL boss & sorting out a tv/media deal and marketing the game better. SB said that last season certain SL clubs had to have a cash handout from the RFL to operate. KF said Steve Price has a "fantastic work ethic" and Steve starts work at 6:30am each day and doesn't leave until its dark. KF says that Steves work ethic from the top is filtering down to the players and KF could see that in action on the pitch.

This is just a brief summary. After the forum I got to speak 1-2-1 with Steve Price he impressed me as very personable and very good with people, these are key skills for a Coach & these skills will help Steve get the most out of his players. Steve seems to have a very good idea of what he wants from the players & clear vision of where he wants our club to be & how he will achieve this.

I was against TS leaving the Club partly because I felt loyal to him for the success he has brought to our club. But I now think Tony leaving the club was the right decision & I'm chuffed we've got Steve Price.

Trophies will be coming our way, it may take longer than us fans want but trophies will be coming our way.

What we have been starved of at this club of ours is a Coach who is a good communicator. When on camera Tony Smith was very guarded with what he said, probably born out of the dislike he had for Sky.

Steve Price has impressed me since arriving out our club. It is no secret what he trying to achieve. He strikes me a some of those laid back characters who knows what he wants and how to go about achieving that. The evidence is in the defence, which is like comparing rocks and diamonds to last season already.

Thanks for the summary FB and if the club keeps on improving little by little every week, somewhere down the line there may be ?

Seeing tv clips of a coach with his head in his hands & banging a table is a passion that has been lacking at the club. I wish Tony Smith all the best in his new career but I think Steve Price has a bit more fire in his belly.

I think this is due to Steve wanting it a lot more. TS was stale and it was time for him & us to part.
That said through Tony we've been to 4 Wembley finals, 3 Grand Finals & 3 LLS's. This I will never forget.

Another thing Steve hasn't brought his family over yet because he wants to have no distractions & fully focus on his role. Thats dedication.

So he would have swaged his flangefitt with a bull plug. Now I get the Wigan match thread.

Good to hear such positive keynotes though.

Oh yes he was a crane driver.
SP also said his family will be over here in 4 weeks. I can imagine that being without the support & love of your family for 4 months is horrid.

The early start and late finish may not be unrelated!

I have copied the following article off the Love RL site regarding Steve Price :-

THE PRICE IS RIGHT FOR BARBA

"A mischievous journalist reckons they have Ben Barba saying that if Steve Price was Warrington coach when they approached him last year, he would have joined them. It’s irrelevant now mind, because he’s at Saints, and the way he played on Friday he could be head and shoulders the best player in Super League this year. The big challenge for Saints isn’t Warrington – it’s keeping him away from the NRL"

Its makes me wonder what sort of impression Tony Smith gave of our club

Let's not get TOO carried away, eh fellas

Price has won 2 games, and has come over well, in a meet and greet. I'm sure any coach would have the nous, not to come over as a t055er in one of these evenings (James Lowes may struggle, though).

Let's leave the personality comparisons with Smith, alone too. They're different people. Price has BIG shoes to fill, to replicate what Smith achieved.

I'll judge Price at the end of July, unless we lose the next 6. A bit of perspective is needed.

Absolutely. Those brown shoes with the blue suit are going to take some forgiving. I do hope he makes a fist of it though - if he doesn't it clearly won't be due to a lack of effort or desire.

This all sounds great but ultimately it will all be about results.

Good communicators are only popular while they are winning. After that they start to grate. Remember a few years ago when Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez were flavour of the month on Merseyside, and then when the results turned they got seen as guys that liked the sound of their own voice. Paul Cullen went through similar with us, he was a fantastic communicator and understood the club and the fans better than anyone ever would but in his last few years the fanbase was divided as we never got the consistent results.

I would happily have Wayne Bennett grunting and grumbling through interviews if he delivered success.

Navy/Blue suit etiquette dictates Brown, Black or Burgundy shoes; all is forgiven.
