What do you all think of George Williams performances thus far for us since he joined the club, and on a kings ransom salary too?
Imo he looks nothing like the marquee player that we signed from the Raiders

I actually thought that we would rip sides apart this season with a spine of Ratchford, Widdop, Williams and Clark (Who are all of our Big earners on the cap) whilst despite being light in the front row (Despite the club letting Chris Hill leave?)

I'm more of a reader of this forum than a poster, but I'm Warrington born and bred and have been a season ticket holder from our Wilderspool days but i'm bloody disgusted with how George and plenty more of our squad too are being so highly paid whilst some of us fans are struggling to even pay our bills each month?

i think he has been awful... BUT, our 'backs to the wall' brand of rugby is NOT what he thrives off.

Give him a team capable of being on top and creating pressure... and you will see a different player.

on the face of it, it looks like we signed totally the wrong player for our 'brand' of rugby.

put him in the saints team and he is a MOS contender

I dont think he's been awful (till recently) but widdop has been, but duckie will tell you, its the pack that lays the platform.

But he's just as much at fault for the lack of game management as widdop

Well he isn't doing anything that Riley Dean couldn't do for a fraction of the wage, let's put it that way.

I expected much, much more but nothing that isn't in an average half backs job description - decent kicking game, putting people in gaps or one on ones, directing play etc.

That's the answer.

He’s happy to pick up a enormous salary.

Won multiple GFs with his boyhood club, went to prove his class in the NRL.

Now rather than return to add to his Wigan career he decided to go to a low pressure environment for extra coin.

Don’t think he’ll be losing any sleep tonight, along with the majority of your squad.

You're on the wind up....

But, Regrettably

You're "bang on"

Bar a couple of drop goals, and his involvement in that try v Saints last season, I'm yet to recall ANYTHING worthy of a low salary player, let alone, a marquee one.

I’m a Williams fan, he’s a good player but I was amazed when we were told Wigan had offered him our highest ever contract. Now maybe that was to appease our fans but it certainly sounds like he’s likely to be one of, it not the highest earner in Superleague.

As I say he’s a good player and in the right team he’ll always trouble defences but the lad seems to have done extremely well financially out of his career when you consider there are some glaring weaknesses to his game. A lad who has no real kicking game from deep and who isn’t a good organiser or a particularly good passer of a ball isn’t a player who should be getting that type of money. This isn’t a Warrington thing either, we paid him marquee money for a few seasons before he went to Oz. You could say we had some value for money for that but the lad must have a fantastic agent. When all the rumours were swirling last season about him choosing between us and you guys, I got to the point where I kept hearing the numbers were getting out of hand and I was happy we walked away.

As and when Powell gets Wire sorted out (and I think he will) I’m sure Williams will play his part, he’s too good not to but there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s being paid over the odds. Fair play if you can get it I suppose.

Might just be me but he is surrounded by crap which stifles him, right now this season as gone let’s just not get caught up in the relegation battle and see what happens in off season and who we get rid of and who we bring in.

He's been good this year and you can see the effort he's putting in. Not his fault the team isn't firing, he's not a one man team. If the forwards aren't firing and he has no support play what are you expecting him to do.

It's representative of some of the nonsense spouted on here - the Warrington board bust a gut to try and get us players like Widdop and Williams, retain Ratchford, Clark, King and Currie, recruit Powell and give him spending money, then, when for whatever onfield reason the performance drops - posters come along saying 'sack the board, they don't care'.

Don't get me wrong, I'm as frustrated as every fan that we're not winning, but it's not due to complacency of the board.

Wire have had the best halfbacks in world RL, and won nothing with them.
There’s only so much they can do behind beaten packs.

Sure, but they've bought Harrison, Bullock, Holmes and Mangoulis to provide that go forwards - you can argue the merits of whether that's been achieved, but it's not like the club has stagnated in terms of recruitment activity.

The recruitment activities haven't stagnated they have simply dropped hugely in standards and have become scattergun in approach. As has been stated on several threads, look at some of the quality we have signed in the last few years, players who have either been not of the required standard, not in positions we needed to focus on or mentally not a good fit or fully ..... motivated.

Stagnated on quality.

Bullock - Prop. Wigan deemed not up to their standard (as they did for Hughes) - he is doing OK but miles off Hill's stats.
Holmes - 29 second row - some nice assists.
Maguolias - second row / LF who has played 17 NRL games over 2 seasons for an NRL team that missed the playoffs. Are we hoping we have unearthed a diamond?
Harrison - Gamble signing from lower league, unproven at top level following 4 game trial with Leeds, unfortunate career threatening injury.

We desperately needed an international quality prop forward and together with Bullock we may have been OK.

I suspect too much of our cap is spent on halves and backs.
