| A bit off topic talking about the Wigan Coach here but...
He certainly comes across as a nice guy but he does appear to be coaching as a fan rather than as a coach if you know what i mean.
He seems far to intense for my liking and he is demanding 110% every week. I think both him and his team are going to be absolutely shot come the business end of the year.

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubblegum.
Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

No Wigan players are going to be over done come play-off time, not with Wane's radical approach to player rotation. I present you the Widnes debacle.

| If any coach doesn't demand 110% from his players every week, he should really consider his position. Coaches 'get' that some players can't perform every week at their optimum level, but it won't stop them asking for it because that's how you get the best from players. The best coaches are the most demanding.

| Youve missed my point Roddy.
I think Wayne is too intense, he isnt going to be able to go through the whole season like that without it having some form of effect. If he aint careful it will spread to the players too.

The moment a coach stops asking for the best from his players, is usually the point where the players to start to rest on their laurels and take the backseat. Whether Wigan will be able to play every round at their highest level is irrelevant, Wane will always ask for 110% from his players because that's always the bare minimum. A coach can forgive his players for errors and penalties, but he can't forgive them for not trying.
For me, I've always viewed intensity as a good thing in a coach. Take Paul Cullen as an example, he was a top bloke, he loved the club to bits and he worked as hard as anybody, but when asked about our poor defence, he would always deflect that criticism onto something else, usually saying something like "I want to play the St Helens brand of rugby, the entertaining stuff". Smith came in, started getting the lads to put effort into everything: kick chases, defence in the opponent's half and goal line defence. The results speak for themselves.
I know it's a different sport, but if you can, try and read into the philosophies behind football coaches like Pep Guardiola. Guardiola has been known to be one of the most intense coaches ever, he's been known to confront players in training who aren't giving their all, this sort of 'temper' has him in complete control over the best dressing room in world football. Yes, they're all talented, but the best coaches will demand more and more from the talent they have. Guardiola will know in his head all of his players can't play every game, so he'll rotate, but when they play, he'll always want 100% and more.
For me, Wane having that kind of attitude is what Wigan need. Despite what Sky say, you can't swan around losing games then hoping to peak at the end of September, winning breeds confidence, and you only win if you give it your all.

| I think Wigan are playing a better brand of Rugby this year. As effective as they had been the last couple of years they were very boring to watch.

50086_1357229109.jpg [b:33tg3xj5]Me:[/b:33tg3xj5] I'm still reeling from the news that someone is considering watching the 1st and 3rd game on Saturday and NOT watching Warrington play. It's like being in Shea Stadium when the Beatles came to town and deciding to nip out for a fag.
[b:33tg3xj5]knockersbumpMKII:[/b:33tg3xj5] Is it FOOK, you're good but you're not THAT good, jesus you wanky fans need to get over yourselves, Beatles at the Shea in '65 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for some (despite the following years performance), you can watch a very good team in primrose & yellow play every week if you really wanted to but comparing it to one of the very best music groups of all time in an iconic stadia such as the shea is overegging your importance, you're not even the best team in SL atm:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_50086.jpg |

| His interviews are painful. All this crap about working them hard in training is so 1980s. That said, Maguire gave the impression that he had a particularly virile dose of IBS when he was interviewed and he was a superb coach, clearly.

| Wigan have been playing exciting rugby but with little composure. It cost us the game against yourselfs and the Widnes game.
I worry that we play with that lack of composure because Wane is so intense and passionate about the club. It's certainly not a case of the players not playing for him rather on occasion overplaying for him and losing focus.
We've looked like a group of excitable schoolboys at points this year but I'm confident we'll learn.

| Maguire was a hard task master and so was Daniel Anderson at Saints and those guys put superbly well prepared teams on the park. However I think there is an issue about a coach being too highly strung. I think we had that problem with Paul Cullen. Cullen was great when we were in a good spell, his drive and charisma helped tide us forward, but when we hit a rocky patch Cullen became very tetchy and defensive and it seemed to make the whole club nervous from players to non playing staff to supporters, and we got stuck in ruts. With Tony Smith we can have a bad game and we seem to deal with things more calmly. I think this could be the issue Wigan have got with Wane. It's tempting fate to write Wigan off as they are a quality team but I have a sense that Wigan won't win any trophies this year with Wane at the helm, and they will replace him with an established coach as soon as they can.

| Just wanted to revisit this thread after todays game. I thought Wane's excitable granddad routine was a bit cringeworthy at times, between his fist-pumping, going in a huff over a rightly disallowed try and bemoaning Josh Charnley missing a meaningless conversion he is well on the way to being crowned the Sam Allardyce of RL.
The sooner he starts acting less like a fan and more like a coach the less embarrassing it will be for everyone.

Terrible isn't it, having a British coach with a bit of personality.

I think what we need is an Aussie who relentlessly moans to the media every week and speaks only cliches, the passion Wane shows is holding our team back.
