Very worrying attendances from the Round 15 matches. Less than 4,000 at both Wakefield and Toulouse, and none of the games attracted a crowd over 10,000, with even Saints only getting 9,858. An average crowd of 6,429 over the six matches, which was the lowest of the season so far, with Round 14 having been the previous lowest. Not that it's a surprise when you consider the woeful quality of the product on offer at the moment. It feels like we're clinging on as a professional sport.

Don't tell me the competition is more even - it is but only because everyones standards have come down, and don't tell me Saints would prosper in the NRL- they are comfortably the best in SL but are miles behind the aussies.

Fortunately my Sherry home-brewing experiments are keeping me occupied. My first batch made next doors cat go blind when he broke into the shed, but I'm hopeful for the second batch.

I know someone has mentioned it already in different post a few weeks ago, but just watching the vintage matches on Sky on Demand shows how fast and fun the game used to be (at least in the summer weather). Lots of fancy stuff from half-backs and a very quick ruck. I don't think people want 80 minutes of wrestling on the floor any more, even if it has made us more competitive at international level.

I watched Salford v Wigan on Friday night, and as well as being a dull game, the standard of officiating was dreadful. Unsurprisingly, Chris Kendall was the man in the middle. There was one occasion when he gave a knock-on against Ken Sio when the ball looked like it landed about three yards behind him. My heart sinks when I see it's either Kendall or Liam Moore in charge. Just one more thing that's detracting from the spectacle at the moment.

Yes, second half. I couldn't believe that Salford just meekly accepted it. Probably felt it didn't really matter by that stage, but even so, you've got to stand up for yourselves.

Attendances are and will continue to fall (across all Clubs), until the game gets back to its previous format.
Officiating has been a huge factor in helping to kill the game by its amateur woeful performance.
We could list a plethora of cock ups made by officials (regrettably far too many errors influential on the games), to the point we hear the ref at the Wakey game last week, has apologised to Warrington for his mistakes....
For crowds to come back the game needs to change and be more like the game we all saw 8-10 years ago, recognise that it IS a contact sport - it is not Netball....
I have watched a lot of NRL this year, and have to say that the gap in skill, entertainment even commentary is nothing short of light years apart.
I haven't set foot in the HJ since pre Lockdown, and since last year, have seen nothing that makes me want to return - ignoring the fact that we are utter garbage, the game itself is boring.
This regrettably is evidenced by attendances, and this will only get worse, as money is tight, so we are having to prioritise where we spend it, and SL simply does not deliver any more.
Shame, but till someone wakes up and smells the coffee in the RFL, though for me, thats where a lot of the problems emanate, things will only get worse, SKY will re-evaluate (only their money would be the loss....nothing else, punditry is a complete joke), and probably walk away.

Last week there were 3 games on Sunday. As has been said before Sunday has become a family day, especially when the weather is nice. As others have said the main problems are the RFL hierarchy and the standard of officiating, but Sundays dont' help.

Wish I could, but I can clearly see whats going on before my eyes (and others).....and it aint good.

With the mobility of forwards these days perhaps try a few games without the six tackle rule & rely on natural ball loss in the game. As it is ,you get two evenly matched teams & because most sets end in a kick RL gets to resemble tennis or even RU in its bad old days when kicking was rife. Maybe stop so many rule changes too & maintain the important rules more rigidly .
