OK, it was Salford, who are no great shakes, but by my calculations we had 10 senior players out today and still got a win. I expected a defeat this afternoon, but that really does show that the future is bright.

didnt go to the game but i was expecting a defeat when i saw the team..as they say a wins a win...nicely nestled in the top 3 and we`ve not hit our straps yet and the bulk of the big boys to play down here..quite content with the way its going....someone will cop a good thrashing

I don't buy into this x number of players missing = poor performance. The players on the pitch today, were, deemed to be good enough to play for Warrington. Just the same as the players who play for Widnes tomorrow, are deemed good enough to play for Widnes. They are professional players, wether at Warrington or any other SL side. I draw the line at the players missing argument, when it's in the lower part-time leagues, where teams are affected by certain key players missing, or in Warrington's case, when Lee Briers is missing. As good as O' brien promises to be, you cannot go into a SL game with only 1 recognised HB.

Warrington are miles off last season's team ( good in the long-term), ie, fit for the end of season. But, any fan watching today, who thinks that we should be putting 50+ on every team, or blames the ref, is seriously deluded.

We seriously need a good hiding to knock this cockiness out of the club. This will be in France next week. The more worrying aspect, long-term, is when Briers retires. Myler is simply not good enough to move the team around, and O' Brien is still inexperienced.

Shows what we have in depth - the 'weaker' team comment, I think is more 'inexperience' (which you also mention in your post), and it is testement of the lads quality, AND smiths judgement, that we can come through games like this with so many in.

I thought Ben Currie was immense today and showed the benefit of 'having a SL game' under his belt. eusa_clap.gif
Also Chris Hill is improving in every game.
Carvell was a 'beast' today icon_smile.gif

On a 'team' note - Riley went to Ben Currie after he had just taken a 'decent ' tackle off 2 salford players and reassured him - just as Atkins did at half time in the Widnes game - this is a TEAM on the way up and will finish the season better than last IMHO icon_cool.gif

Laithewaite scored in Leighs close win today too k020.gif

This sort of post just shows the narrow difference between success and failure. A few weeks ago when Wigan had a team of youngsters out against Widnes, they lost by one point. Had Widnes not scored their last try then all we would have heard from Wigan fans was how bright their future is, that even though Widnes are no great shakes, they can put out a team of youngsters against Super League opposition and win. But they lost by one point so all the debate was about how Shaun Wane had disrespected Super League by the team he had picked.

Say for instance Salford had scored one more try and beaten us....would the talk on here have been about how bright our future was, or would we now be asking very serious questions about where the club was going after the season we have had so far, and the Catalans game in the Challenge Cup would be pretty much win or bust for us.

Live Wired's "negativity" is only what will be repeated by pretty much every Warrington fan, if we lose at Catalans, be it by one point or forty.

Thought Smithy took a "calculated risk" by resting a lot of 1st team players with experience. The team did well to come away with a win & lets face it 2 points is 2 points.

Giving the players the time off may help when it comes to the business end of the season.

To be fair since Leeds won last year, I'm not too fussed regarding the weekly rounds as long as we get into the top 8 and it's a knockout basically.Leeds were way off the pace when we played them twice last year then won when it counted. Granted I don't want to see us get beat but whilst it's the weekly rounds no need to worry. I'm all for building consistency but this will come at the business end of the season when we get players back. Big Dave will make a hell of a difference. Keep the faith

We probably do have 'a couple of defeats in hand' so to speak, but the benefits of what Smith is doing will be very beneficial in the long run - excellent players gaining valuable experience will do us no harm whatsoever - exception being the salary cap - these lads will be knocking on the chairmans door for a raise!!

I know it was close at the end but we got the 2 points with all these players missing.

Brett.
Bridgey
Lee.
Richie.
Moz
Monas M.
Super Ben.
Big Dave.
Ratchford.

I think everyone of those players would have been in our 1st choice 17.
So thats 9 players out of our 17 yet we still won.

We already had a good hiding away at the Cats. And we seem to have 'gone into an SL game with one recognised HB' and won it. O'Brien is as inexperienced as was Lee Briers when he signed for Wire. Myler would work great with him. As would Ratchford. You ought to be thankful you're not a Chemics fan or you'd be slitting your wrists, attitude on you, boy.
