| RL Express headlining with out of contract players.
The stand out is Ben Currie.
We’ve stood by him through 2 x rehabilitation issues, and he was hitting pockets pre injury form, with increasing frequency.
Is it to be believed, or paper troll buy bait?
...and what would you’re thoughts be to release him?
...and who else is coming out of contract?

| Surely it's simply a fact that players are coming out of contract. Little else for the RL media to report on currently.

I'd be very, very surprised if we didn't offer him (In fact already offered him) a new deal and I would be very disappointed if he chose to move elsewhere.
He's absolutely worthy of a new deal.
The papers know who is out of contract and who hasn't confirmed as signing a new deal, doesn't mean the deal hasn't already been signed. The club generally like to announce contract extensions in groups - so hopefully we'll hear something soon. Wouldn't surprise me to see the club tie Philbin down to a longer deal as well, even if he isn't up till end of 2021.

| Like most other team sports there's still a huge question mark over contract length/extensions linked to C-19 and season restarts/season end date.
Coupled with RL clubs financial uncertainty too, it's unlikely that much will change until the future is more certain.

| I would love Currie to stay as Duckie says he was finally returning to some kind of pre injury form. Whether he is offered the same 'level' of deal relatively speaking is open to question as when he was signed up last time it was as one of the hottest properties in the game.
With Philbs, it wouldn't surprise me if he had a go in Australia like Coops did and then return.

| Told by a St Helens supporting neighbour today that they believe Ben Currie is off to them next year replacing Zeb Taia.
Could be a wind up but I've known him for years and he thinks it might happen.

I don't think you can afford to lose a quality player like Currie especially as you are losing BMM,to lose both would be a massive loss

| I'd sign Currie again but on a lower wage, he's still a good player and i have a feeling if he went to saints he'd turn in to another sculthorpe where would always wish we hadn't let him go.

| Whether Currie signs for us or saints, his contract should reflect that he is a bit of a risk given his injury record and not being one of hottest properties in the game as he was when signing his last deal.

I'd be very happy if this one came off, he's an old school hard yards forward who could easily transition to a quality Prop.
Currie staying with us could very well based on what we're prepared to pay him i suppose if other clubs are willing to pay more he could leave. I would like him to stay though

| I don't want currie to leave, he's definitely back this season and has shown enough to warrant trust in a new contract and starting shirt. I wouldn't be dissapointed with mcmeekan I can't remember seeing him have a bad game against us, solid consistent payer from what I've seen although I must admit I havent seen loads of him.

| We need to be a bit careful with the Currie situation and not let home-town bias influence us.
If Currie was a Saints player, and we were linked with signing him, we wouldn't be that excited. We'd be saying stuff like he hasn't been really good since 2016, why are Saints willing to let him sign elsewhere? We'd be suspicious that this would be one of those Wire signings where we pick up a big reputation player whose best days are behind him. Why? Because we'd assume that Saints are ruthless and make tough decisions.
If we sign Currie to an extension, it will be received well on here, everyone will say it's great news, but it will only take 2 games into next season if we start badly and Currie isn't effective, and the inquest will start: why have we kept Price, a top club would have got rid by now; why did we re-sign Currie on the back of having a handful of good games in about 3 years, a top club wouldn't have, we're too nice, we're never going to win a Grand Final unless we're ruthless...

| I'd definitely keep Currie as rather optimistically and admittedly without much foundation, I think he can get back to being one of those names that you look out for on our team sheet. I also think that as we have quite rightly stood by him during those injury disrupted years we will be negotiating sensibly when it comes to this next deal, I wouldn't be too happy seeing him wearing a red vee unless it was a shirt swap after securing a GF victory

| Saints would sign Currie in a heartbeat, Wigan would sign Currie in a heartbeat, Leeds would sign Currie in a heartbeat. He is a proven international quality player, I’m sure he will sign a new deal and I’m sure he will continue the road to the player he was.
Had he not got injured, he’d be on marquee money by now I reckon.
