Is Ryan Shaw now part of the first team set-up? I don't remember seeing anything about him signing a new deal.

Yes, he's here for 2011 definitely and hopefully much longer than that! Pivotal year for him, he needs to kick on from the potential he's shown and be a serious option for the first team. Squadbuilder are supporting him.

Good news that, he seemed to be the "forgotten man" when all the announcements about academy players training with first team were being made. He certainly looks like having potential to kick on and knows where the try line is.

From the photo I reckon there 15 players on there who are products of our academy system. I would have really liked the club to continue to do the big group photo with all academy teams and service area teams on. Unfortunately it died a death after the first year. It would be really interesting to be able to chart and record player's progression through the ranks.

Also good to see squadbuilder supporting him. How many of the players on that photo have been supported by Squadbuilder at some stage? Not seen a Squadbuilder thread on here for sometime; I fear the demographic on here now is not really that way inclined any more.

to have 50% of the first team squad come through the Academy is fantastic and shows that the club have an excellent youth system in place

We kind of discussed this at last week's Trust/SqB board meeting which John Bastian attended. We have plans for this year to increase awareness of the kind of things SqB and the club overall does and try to get a bit more publicity by involving the players, including ones in the senior squad who have already progressed through the Academy.

At the media On Monday there was a group photograph taken of the Squadbuilder supported players I will post it here when I receive a copy.
